Hi All~
What is the difference between fat burning heart rate and cardio heart rate. I know my cardio heart rate is higher than my fat burning.... but does that mean when i am working out harder and my HR is higher i am not burning fat?
what do I do to burn fat!?

I tried googling it for a proper answer... I couldn't seem to put my thoughts into words.

In the long run it just comes down to how many calories you burn. So the harder you work, the more calories you burn, the fat you'll lose!!!0

Slow down. Keep your heart rate at the target rate for your age for fat burn. The machines at most clubs have the heart rate monitors or you can get a watch and band that goes around your chest that will tell you how fast you are going. Cardio works your heart. Fat burn, burns the fat.
Mine is 114 for 45 years of age and that is where I stay for the majority of my workout. I want to work out my body, not my heart.
The hardest thing for people seems to be to go slower. I love it and my endurance is longer and I am not exhausted from exercising.
My motto: Slow and steady wins the fat burn race.

You need to do both. Cardio HR will help your cardiovascular system (imagine that :huh: ) - in fact, when I don't lose much if I don't go into the 75% and above HR - usually 4-5 times a week. Sometimes I do intervals, sometimes all out for 30+ minutes at above 75%.
Think of it this way: if you walk at a pace of 3.5 mph, on a flat surface, for 1 hour, you burn around 300 calories (depending on your weight) - but if you push it on the elliptical or you jog, you can easily burn twice that in the same amount of time.
There's nothing wrong with either one. Unless you have a heart condition or you are out of shape (or similar), there's no reason you shouldn't at least do some CHR - even if it's only for 1 minute each workout - it will go up.:happy:0 -
I am currently in college working on a degree in nutrition and one of the chapters covers sports nutrition. From what I have studied if you are not in the fat burning heart rate area but have a higher heart rate you will burn more calories in total and end up burning more from fat even though you are burning carbs as well. It's good to incorporate both types of work outs, also interval training is a great fat blaster!! I like to interval training on the treadmill, I jog for a minute and sprint for 30-50 seconds and repeat as many times as possible, don't forget to warm up and cool down for about 5 minutes each!0

My research has shown the same that others have said. You need to do varying types of aerobic workout to get the best results.
There are three types.
Fat burning which is when you keep your heart rate in the target zone for fat burning.
another, which I can't remember the name of, but you keep a steady pace and the highest speed/level you can go and keep up for 15 - 20 minutes minimum.
The other is intervals, where as someone stated before, you switch up your intensity. These really burn a lot of calories.0 -
