Fasting For Lent???

So, although I am not Catholic, I have tried to observe Lent for the past few years. I have given up meat in the past, which was soooo hard. LOL. I did not eat fish either, since I considered it meat. This time, I am considering fasting throughout Lent. From what I read, it is not refraining from eating or drinking all day. Instead, it is eating one main meal a day and up to two other small meals that together do not exceed the size of the main meal. Also, drinking water, milk, etc. throughout the day is allowed. I also believe meat is not allowed, but fish is.
I'm wondering if this is a smart decision for my weight loss/getting healthy plan. I'm worried it will keep me from eating my minimum calories. Has anyone fasted the whole 40 days, and if so, how did it affect your weight loss goals?
Thanks!
