I have searched and found a few things, sen some from friends posts, etc. Any easy way to find the "fun" events or races? I am in Maine, and many are not here but i may be able to travel, depending on location and timing. I am not even ready to compete in something like this yet but would love to set it as a goal! I have looked before, i think at coolrunnings.com for local races but got nothing really intense, challenging, fun...............

I am aware of :
Tough Mudder
Warrior Dash
Color Run
Mud run ?
Tomato run?

Thanks in advance for any help, tips, or info!

There should be a website for either your state or New England that lists all kinds of run events. I would start there, or look for the website for your local run club and see if they have an event calander.

The Maine ones are hard to find because they also call racing ATVs and such in the mud "mud runs". I ended up Googling "Maine 2012 obstacle running" and that gave much better results.
Here are some of the ones in Maine:

Tough Mountain Challenge at Sunday River on 7/21/2012
    http://toughmountain.com/

Into the Mud Challenge in Gorham on 5/2/2012
    http://www.intothemudchallenge.com/

Dynamic Dirt Challenge in New Gloucester on 6/3/2012
    http://www.dynamicdirtchallenge.com/

And there's a Warrior Dash in NH on 9/15/2012

    Try: runningintheusa.com

This web site lets you search for races all over the USA (assuming you live in the USA). You can also search the web sites of some of the larger running stores that may be in your area. For me in NE Florida, 1st Place Sports hosts a lot of races, and they have them listed on their web site. Other areas Fleet Feet is a huge running store that sponsors a lot of events also.
