Awe... Melissa you stole my line...Ive been waiting till I got through reading all of the posts to say it....LOL
Seems to me that this whole "topic" was for attention. It is very clear that she and her other crony knows it all. So why the heck ask for an opinion... GEEZ...0 -
This is a big part of most peoples cycle on infinite regress (and has been my own problem in the past):
1. Eat something processed
2. Get spikes in insulin
3. Energy is then used & stored very quickly
4. Get a quick energy spike + blunted fat loss
5. Enter a 'depressed' state from a lack of energy (low blood glucose)
6. Depressed state causes stress (for a variety of reasons)... This leads the person back to step 1 to repeat the cycle.
Don't believe me? Do some light reading on blood glucose, insulin, and the effects of eating sugary & processed foods.
Or better yet, do some self experimentation and eat a bowl of cereal and see how this makes you feel, then do the same thing with a bowl of beans, veges or even cottage cheese
Not to mention I don't know a single person who has a 6-pack and eats crap calories (that isn't already predisposed to a 6-pack genetically).
In conclusion, calories are not created equal. Because of — and not limited to — the human condition.
Edit: somewhere between step 1 & 2 I'm sure if I was more knowledgeable I could include something about the state of mind that eating processed foods puts you in... And the effects it has on certain hormones that regulate your hunger (ie. Ghrelin and Leptin). But I've never read heavily into it, because the effects can be felt intuitively when you're snacking on your favorite junk food :P0 -
Processed food has nothing to do with that. Also, without low blood sugar, you would never enter fat burning mode, as the fat is burned to raise and stabilize the blood sugar when it drops, Insulin is supposed to spike and crash in a normal metabolism, that's how it evolved. As long as the body has food in the system, it will not burn fat, as food is the number one energy source, when the food is processed, blood glucose drops, glucagon is released, and the body converts body fat back into glucose to bring bloods glucose back up and stabilize it.
The entire sequence you mentioned ALWAYS happens, regardless of what or how you eat. If it doesn't, your metabolism is damaged. And if you're eating in a caloric deficit, energy is NOT stored. Period.0 -
I am not even playing devil's advocate when I tell you this very true story about my self.
I ate like the OP was concerned about junk, junk exercise junk. Then I decided that I would move towards a more natural, less meat, healthy diet. I was using peanut butter and black beans as sources of non animal protein and eating other veges that I happen to like sweet potatoes, spinach salads etc. as well as a variety of fruits, strawberries, oranges etc.
Do you know what I got for the effort? 7 kidney stones in my left kidney and 3 in my right kidney. One of the kidney stones on the left side was 12mm. I was also not allowed to exercise due to my poor bleeding kidney. So go find a ruler, find 12 mm and compare that to your pee hole, then tell me how healthy all that fresh veg was for me.
I am back to eating junk, I am trying to find a balance but please do not be so quick to judge.0 -
Al I know is, when I was 'dieting' I caved on a regular basis, and subsequently gained all of my weight back.
Now I just eat whatever I want, but watch portion size, and eat every 3 hours.
In saying that though, I love eating healthy food, and only eat 'junk' food maybe once a week. So I guess I'm not all that relevant to the argument, lol. Except for the fact that diets don't work, lifestyle changes do!
So ultimately, it's each to their own! If you're exercising, with some of your calories being crappy, then you're still doing a helluva lot better than most of the western society eating the same crap in larger amounts, and sitting on their butts
Edit: And in response to the "eating healthier than others makes you healthier" argument. I highly beg to differ. I personally benefit from 'eating clean' as I have PCOS, but I have friends who probably eat well only 60% of the time, and are in tip top shape. But for the first 18.5 yrs I was thin as a rake, and only ate garbage. Yet all my blood tests were completely normal.
Genes plays a HUGE role in things.
I may secretly judge some peoples eating habits, ie ones who eat crap, and then ***** that they haven't lost weight, but it's wise to keep those comments to yourself hahah0 -
I am not the food police and what others eat has absolutely no affect on me.
That being said, I don't eat clean. I eat as healthily as I want to, but it's not a requirement. I wouldn't stick to this if it was.0 -
Opinions are like *ss holes....everybody has one.
ok totally laughed out loud and scared my dog lmao0
