pregnancy and exercise

I recently found out I was pregnant. My estimates I am 6 weeks along. Unlike my past pregnancy I plan to keep control of my weight and fitness!
I am under the impression that I do not need to change my exercise....is this true? Also are there any exercises that are great for pregnancy?

If it's something you have been doing for a while, it is my understanding you don't need to change what you are doing... you may have to be aware of any jerking movements, twists/turns and jumps... due to change in balance and softening of ligaments... but other than that you should be alright to do what you normally do.... I was doing Zumba (when is wasn't so god awful tired from anemia) throughout my pregnancy... Strength exercises are really good too.0

I'm sure your ob/gyn can help you out with specifics about exercise that will suit your physical health and needs. I've heard that you may want to cut down on anything that is jarring or in danger of falling (stay off the rock walls! especially in the early part.
But keeping yourself healthy and eating nutritiously is the best you can do for your baby. And fyi, I managed to roto-till a 40' x 80' veggie garden when I was 7 months pregnant....my son was born healthy and now he's a landscaper! (could there be any correlation?)0 -
I would keep consistent with your workout routine. Consult your OB for sure, as I'm not an expert, but I asked mine the same thing (I'm not pregnant, but thinking about having more children in the future), and she said that if it's an activity that my body is used to, it's fine to keep doing. Obviously as the baby grows certain exercises won't be as doable as others (don't think crunches are really possible when you've got a basketball belly!) but exercise is great during pregnancy.
This one woman ran the Chicago marathon at 9 months pregnant (ran/walked at the advice of her doctor) then went and delivered her baby after the race was over! That's a little extreme, to me, but again, if your body is used to it, then it won't be such a stress to your system. Just making sure you pay attention to any discomfort is the biggest thing, often times when we feel a little strain we push through it, but when you're pregnant it's more important to listen to those little warnings and back off if something feels uncomfortable.
Congratulations!!0
