Tonic water is usually recommended as something that helps deal with cramps rather than just generally sore muscles. I can't remember the science behind it, I'm sure if I wasn't lazy I could google it0

It sure helps if your muscles are sore because of malaria.
Not really. You'd need to drink gallons of it to have any effect on malaria.
There is some evidence to support this claim, but I don't know how accurate it is, or if tonic water is any better than any other remedy for sore muscles. Probably not.0 -

tonic water contains a very small amount of quinine. For most people, it doesn't do anything. there is some research that shows people who suffer from "restless legs syndrome" get some relief by using tonic water. You can also get pills (used to be called NoCramps, don't know what they call them now) which also have small amount of quinine.
Of course, there's also some studies that show putting a bar of soap under the bottom sheet of your bed can reduce "restless legs syndrome."
I had problems with RLS for awhile. Cure for me was losing some weight and strengthening my core muscles. Back nerve issues can cause leg problems and cramping.0 -
