Is too much protein bad??

I'm just wondering because I notice I go over my allotted protein amount all the time. And usually by a lot. How bad is it to have "too much" protein? Does having too much in a day make you fat/gain weight? I'm a 5'3, 26 year old woman at about 154 right now, looking to lose about 30 pounds. I know protein is great if your trying to build muscle and I'm not trying to necessarily get a six pack and definitely not trying to be a body builder here. I'm just worried that I might be gaining fat or weight by having "too much" protein. Thank you for any help and advice!

No. The mfp default setting are pretty low.
There's no problem with eating a lot of protein. It keeps you fuller longer, and supports muscle retention / development.0 -

Personally, I have been taught that we don't need as much protein as we think we do. Maybe you should try to eliminate animal proteins from one or two meals a day. Or only eat very lean proteins like turkey. Black beans are a great source of non-animal protein.

Too much protein will not make you gain weight unless you're eating beyond a calorie deficit. MFP's protein settings are pretty low, in my opinion. I've heard 110g a day is safe for most people. I'm not a doctor, and I have no studies to quote, but you probably don't have to worry about protein unless you're chugging protein shakes all day (or you have certain medical conditions [usually related to the kidneys if I'm remembering correctly]).
