What to eat between workouts?

I'm a gym rat and love to work out. I've been wondering what is the best way to deal with maintaining energy during my mega workouts though. For instance, today I plan on running 2 to 4 miles. Then, sometime after that I will take a muscle pump class followed by a Bodycombat class (back to back). I don't want to phone in my Bodycombat workout.
How can I keep my energy up between these workouts? I've snacked on grape tomatoes for 5 min. between classes before but I was wondering if there is something better. I've also tried strawberries and the acid in them bothered me during cardio. Maybe I should eat protein between workouts instead?
Also does it matter if say I'm doing a cardio workout, then an hour or thirty minutes later, strength training? Would the type of workout then change my snack?

I think you are the right track eating fruit... you need to sustain your fast burst energy with carbs and sugars.
Protein is more for repair and should be eaten after your workouts for muscle repair and recooperation.
so even a gatorade ,apple juice , apple , orange and bannana would be a good choice. your protein will just sit in your stomach and make you sick while you work out.0
