They have been shown to reduce weight GAIN in rodents on a high fat diet. This is considerably different than inducing weight loss in humans.

Short answer: No, they don't work, at least it's never been proven.
Additional comment: Please do not get dietary advice from Dr. Oz, as that is where this supplement was recently popularized.

I stopped playing with him because he stole all the fun foods and threw them out. However, he keeps making me these raspberry smoothies so sometimes I let him come over. Want a sip *holds out smoothie*

Eating a package of Raspberries everyday will likely be tastier, and more beneficial.

Exactly as a another poster said, they have just been correlated with preventing weight gain in rodents on a high lipid diet, because it increases the epinephrine-induced lipolysis. However, increasing the rate of lipolysis is indiscriminatory, since you have one means in your small intestine, and another outside your cells that is induced by your bloodstream glucose levels. There is no way to say which one was increased, and there have been no clinical studies with humans proving weight loss effects.

Honestly, if there is something in raspberries that's beneficial to you, eat the raspberries! It's useless to spend all that money on a supplement.

I understand and that's why I tried to word that part carefully. I am going to bet that your friend got it from that show. See if your friend recommends Keto-7 or Foreskin or whatever the hell he recently promoted, because those will come up next.
