Upper abs cramping up.

I've been doing some pretty easy exercise tapes to get started on this exercise journey. On Monday, I came up with a weight lifting routine to incorporate into my exercise plan...At the end of the workout, I incorporated 1 set of 20 crunches. At about 15, my upper abdominal area cramped up terribly and I couldn't move. It took a long time to go away and felt like a squeezing pain. Tonight, I plan on doing the same routine and I'm very anxious about doing the crunches again... Has anyone had this problem? Should I try to do them again? What if they occur again? Thanks for any help or advice...
