My first business trip...what food to pack?

So I'm taking my first business trip this week. I get a per diem for food and incidentals. I'm staying in a hotel where the conference is being held, and I do not have the authorization for a rental car. So I can only eat within walking distance.

I want to pack some snacks for the plane ride and for the hotel....any suggestions? I want to bring snacks and maybe some foods...I don't know. I just want to make sure that I my hunger is satisfied healthily, despite what the menus might offer. Like, is it too much of a pain to pack apples and 100 calorie popcorn and other 100 calorie treats?

Your hotel probably has a fridge & microwave. Go online & check. That can make it much better. You could pick up a few things & keep them in your room.
Take some almonds or other snacks that keep well.

check with the hotel about a microwave and fridg

consider taking a cab (or the hotel shuttle, if they have one) to a grocery store and buy some of the food you normally eat at home. If you get a per diem then it will cover the cost of the taxi and the grocery store.

I like to take almonds and Luna bars with me to conferences. It doesn't cover everything but gets me through the rough spots. I've also taken instant oatmeal:smile: . Good Luck!! And stay away from the mini-bar!!!

Nuts...I didn't think of that. i'm staying at the Embassy Suites - they have a small fridge and microwave. The other thing is that I am sure that dinners will be networking opportunities...so I need to worry about lunch and breakfast. Though a complimentary breakfast is included - I can do egg whites, an omelette with veggies, or fruit. That's not bad.

I'm not sure if lunch is included during the conference, but I'm doubting it is. which makes lunch another networking opportunity.

Looks like salads for the days I'm away. Nuts and 100 calorie snacks for the plane. Popcorn for a late night snack...

    What do you guys think?

Luna bars...so those are good? I've seen them but not tried them. But good idea. And the oatmeal...I've thought of that.

The mini-bar...I can't afford it! haha

But a glass of wine during the "executive happy hour" (free alcohol) might not be too bad.

Haha, april, boy do I know! Sometimes, the only reason I workout at all is for the wine!!!

Seriously. Sometimes, that's the only motivation I have. Not most of the time, but sometimes. haha. What grocery stores have Luna bars? I think I saw them at Trader Joes, but do other regular grocery stores have them?

Target has them for decent prices. Probably other such stores. I get mine at Whole Foods. They're about $1 each.
