I am not deathly ill. I just have a bad cold which developed into an upper respiratory infection and bronchitis. I have not worked out for over week now and have gained 2 pounds back. I went to the hardware store and the grocery store yesterday and felt terrible by the time I got home. This makes me very nervous about working out. I don’t want to overdo it but I also am concerned I am using my sickness as an excuse not to workout. Any thoughts or advice?

Well if you can't breath very well, I wouldn't do anything to make you breath hard, It will put to much stress on your body and it will take longer for you to heal. Hope this helps and hope you feel better too.

If you've only been sick a week, unless you've seriously gone over your calories - like 3500 over - then you've not gained fat, most likely just water weight. Drink plenty of fluids, eat lots of veggies, and keep your calories within the limit and you'll be fine. Don't overtax your body.

You need to give your body a chance to recover!! Take it slow you wont be able jump right back were you were. Just start moving again!!! I realy hope you feel better it is discouraging when we get sick but its part of the learning curb. This is a test, You can Pass. You know what you need to do! YOur worth it!!!

I know what your dealing with. I got mono two months ago and since then I have been trying to recover- but it's hard. You definitely don't want to overdo it, but at the same time you don't want to gain weight.. i have the same issue! I personally have been trying to take it slow- I go for walks at the beach in the sun, or take quick, light jogs so I'm doing something. I'm also trying to stay within my calories everyday (that has proved to be the hardest thing for me) and drink plenty of water. I would say give yourself a break and listen to your body! You will get better!!!!!

    Yoga.

I was sick for almost two weeks and yoga saved me during that time. It is low-impact and the whole point is to open the body and spend time breathing while stretching everything out... exactly what you need to help your body heal.

Yoga is the answer my friend. :flowerforyou: At least it was (and still is:smile: ) for me!

I hadn't thought of yoga. There is a class at my gym tonight at 7:30pm. I think I will give it a shot. I usually take a Body Combat class on Monday nights but I just don’t know if I can handle that much exertion. I swear, if it weren’t for the classes offered at my gym, I would really struggle. I have also been trying to stay within my calorie limits but it’s hard to do that even on a day when I feel great. I have about 150 calories left for today… I guess I’m going to eat a light dinner.

Listen to your body and don't over do it...I was just sick with the flu last week as well, I think I managed to hit the gym once between last Sunday and this Sunday. Once you get back into the swing of things the weight will come right back off, sometimes a break like that is a good trick to see the numbers keep dropping anyways.

I made it to the gym last night. I thought it was a yoga class, turned out it was Pilates. It was really hot in the studio but it felt so good to sweat. When I left I felt better, both mentally and physically. Great suggestion! I'm glad I didn't overdo it.
