I wanted to start a thread to see if anyone out there is not only struggling with their diet, but with their children's dietary needs as well.

I have a 12 year old with no allergies.
I have a 3 yr old that is allergic to peanuts/tree nuts (it isn't severe, but we are still very careful).

I also have a 20 month old son that is allergic to Milk, Eggs, Peanuts, Tree nuts, Pine nuts, Spinach, and tomatoes. At least that is where we are now. His "nut" and egg allergies are extremely severe. We don't have any nuts in out home and we don't eat any out of the fear that the oil residue will send him into anaphylactic shock. We also TRY to keep eggs out of the house, but we do get them sometimes.

I have to make most of his food from scratch because he has so many allergies. It makes it hard sometimes to stick to my dietary needs. Cooking is exhausting to me sometimes.

Does anyone else feel this way??? Or have food allergy issues???

    You poor dear :flowerforyou:

My best friend's son is allergic to peanuts, soy, and all those combos (as you well know) which means he can barely eat a thing I give my kid. Every time we make an outing with the kids, she offers to bring the snacks, because it's safer -- heaven forbid I forget and pack something with "soy lecithem' (or whatever it is) as an additive that her poor boy is allergic to.

I have no advice, just wanted to throw some understanding support your way!

Thank you Lauryn. My nephew is allergic to soy and all of the nuts as well. He is 4 1/2. They tend to keep away from family functions and other outings because they are afraid that he will either ingest something or be upset that he can't have what everyone else is having.
I refuse to live that way. I have a cooler and he knows that is his cooler full of his food. He is alright with that. Our biggest problem is the 3 year old who likes to share her food with her brother or wants to help mom out and accidentally hands him a piece of real cheese instead of his own cheese (tofuitti soy cheese). We have 2 big family get togethers coming up. The first is overnight one night and the second is a four nighter. I just requested a fridge for my hotel room and I'll bring a bigger cooler. No biggy.

Tank you for the understanding support!

I'm not sure how my friend convinced her son into eating his own food and being understanding. He's only about 4 1/2 too but he understands things so well. He will tell you, "Oh I can't eat that!" (in his cute country twang). I know it's so difficult on my friend. We took the kids to the zoo last year and she had to order him a hamburger minus the bun, but only after asking to look at the ingredient list on the box the prepackaged frozen burger came in. In a long line of hungry people, it was a hassle for her, but a necessary one. (Of course, no one said anything to her but I was ready to defend any attacks!!)

I can only imagine it's terribly time consuming, cooking separately.
Maybe it's time for the oldest to start cooking for the family so you can cook for the youngest?
(And by oldest, I might be referring to your husband  )

Well, DH works crazy hours and is rarely home for meals (at least until June).

I really understand about the zoo meal. I know I was trying to find a new lunch meat and I thought... Deli Counter.... Yeah, The lady behind the counter was annoyed that I wanted to read the label from the different meats even though I explained to her why. It was nice of you to be on guard just in case.
