Need Vacation Ideas
Alright I've got a budget of around $2000 bucks to go somewhere for my spring break in a months time. I had originally planned to go to Texas to visit a friend but that's got too much drama associate with it, so where else in the US could I fly to cheap and have a reasonable amount of stuff to go see? A nice beach would be a nice bonus
Just looking to get some ideas and hear what others have done. Thanks!

There's no beach, but the Washington DC area is a great place to visit. There are tons of things to do around the city, or within a day trip, especially if you like history. The Smithsonian museums (there are 10+ in the DC area -- all free to visit). Lots of government buildings -- e.g. Capitol... The Jefferson Memorial is beautiful, especially if the Cherry Blossoms are out.
Outside the city - Mt Vernon (G. Washington's home) is very close, Monticello (Jefferson's home) is 2 hours away. The Chesapeake bay is close, there's great sailing. To get to these areas it's best to rent a car.
And of course there are fantastic theaters, clubs, live music, amazing restaurants...
There are 3 airports in the greater metro area -- often BWI (Baltimore Washington International) is the cheapest -- just take the train or the bus (Washington Flyer) into the city. To keep your hotel expenses down and still stay safe - stay on the Virginia side of the river and take the subway (metro) into the city. Get a multi-day metro pass to make it cheaper. The Crystal City, Rosslyn, Key Bridge, Pentagon City, or Clarendon neighborhoods in Virginia are good to stay in, less expensive than the city, and still very close (5-10 mins by metro) to the city.0 -
Thanks for the ideas everyone! I've done Vegas before a couple years ago. Wouldn't go by myself though. I like the myrtle beach idea. Calif is an option too, just have to find a cheaper airport to land at besides LAX . Im going to New York next year, and I don't think Chicago will be warm enough in March. I'll check out some prices on a few travel sites. Thanks again :-)0
