Fitbit Question

When I get up in the morning (including today, when the Fitbit was on the charger all night), my Fitbit already says that I've burned 400-500 calories. If sleeping burns that many calories, I need to be taking more naps, not zumba-ing!

Is this the same with all fitbits? Any idea what the rationale is for this? It calls into question my total calorie burn for the day, in my opinion.

I never put mine on the charger. Are you supposed to? Does your say things?
  • Hi there,

I actually work at Fitbit, and came across your question. The Tracker is also calculating your BMR, or basal metabollic rate, which are the calories you're burning just by being alive. Your BMR is automatically calculated based on the information you put in during account setup, like height, weight, age, gender, etc., and varies person to person.

Zumbaing is still better, since you're burning your BMR AND all those steps :)

    Hope this helps!

That helps a lot, thank you! I suspected as much, but was not sure. And I'm totally disappointed that I couldn't slip power naps into my workout.

BTW, I love my fitbit, and have felt that it's worth every penny. I feel naked if I walk out the door without it attached to me.
