You are what you eat; And what you’re eating is a girly drink. Might as well have a little pink umbrella.

Many internet sites discuss the benefits of soy, stating that soy has been a main source of protein for Asians for thousands of years. Soy is called heart-healthy, and has been said to decrease your risk of cancer. Soy products have been, in recent years, labeled as THE health food. Products like SoyJoy bars and soy beans fly off the shelves. But what do we, as Americans, really know about soy and soy products other than what the media has claimed??
According to The Whole Soy Story: the Dark Side of America’s Favorite Health Food, by Kaayla T. Daniel, PhD, CCN, the Chinese began eating soy beans roughly 2,500 years ago when they learned how to ferment it. Why was it so important to ferment the beans before consumption? The Chinese apparently knew that soy beans contained a toxin that would only be ok to eat after it was properly cooked out of the beans. Ok, so that’s what we’re eating, right?! WRONG! Many of the soy products listed as “healthy foods” today and stock the various shelves in your local grocer as well as in health food specialty stores contain the same soy product that is used by fast food chain to extend the life of their burgers and used in dog kibble to maintain freshness. If you have ever seen Super Size Me, you will know that a McDonald’s burger takes months to decompose. If you are ingesting something that does not decompose, what good is it doing for your body? This simply means your body isn’t able to metabolize it and you are getting nothing out of it.
That being said, I want to take a look at some of the most popular diet and nutrition products being used locally. One main supplement I have seen used is Vi-Shape shakes. Similar to Beach Body’s Shakeology program, (another item we will talk about later), you are supposed to drink two shakes in place of a meal daily, then substitute multiple snacks daily and eat a “normal” dinner. When you take a look at Vi-Shape’s nutritional info, it seems pretty impressive. At only 90 calories for two scoops, it has 12g of protein and 5g of fiber. Then you get to the vitamins. Each serving size only contains 30% of each vitamin. Ok…so with just the two shakes a day you’re getting 60% of your DVs. Sounds reasonable. Let’s suppose you take a good daily multivitamin and the one meal you eat is something uber healthy and you’ve got all your vitamins at 100% or more and you are feeling great about yourself. Come on, you totally deserve a pat on the back! YOU are a nutrition guru and all your friends are flocking to you to know how you stay so healthy. You’re losing weight, and you’re doing it pretty quickly. At $100 a month, it seems like a decent expenditure for something so ultimately life-changing. You are feeling younger, more fit, and people start noticing.
Then it hits. The plateau of all plateaus…the weight stops coming off after about 20 pounds gone. You start feeling sluggish, you seem to get one cold after another, you think something has got to be wrong. You keep drinking your shakes like a good little boy or girl and blame it on the change of the seasons. Over a month goes by without a change in your weight, or worse…you actually put back ON a couple of those hard-earned pounds you’ve lost. But still, you pay you $100 for your month’s supply because you MUST lose the weight and look young again. One day, you are aimlessly staring at the back of your shake’s packaging. You start reading the ingredients. You notice the first ingredient is soy protein. NOW! After all you’ve been taught by the news you know how good soy is for you! You’re still insistent that this product is the bomb-diggity. You read on, and you realize that all your vitamins are added in. At the end. The smallest in quantity ingredients are your vitamins. A light-bulb goes off. You remember reading somewhere that the only vitamins that are soluble are the ones found in food. You remember that you actually need to eat healthy to lose weight and keep it off. That shake that seemed to be your quick fix, your found treasure, your golden ticket….has failed you.
The ultimate of all shakes according to many is Beach Body’s Shakeology. It is a terrible tasting, gritty, and half of the time BILE GREEN product that you are supposed to “enjoy” twice daily to replace meals. Ok, so you get over the disgusting taste and you come to terms with the fact that you are just never going to enjoy your food again. That’s what a diet is for, right?! Images of plain rice cakes and lettuce pop into your head. Guess what? Shakeology may have named their “proprietary blend” something fancy, but it is going to do the same for you!
Oh! And guys…you’re going to LOVE this. One of soy’s original uses? TO LOWER TESTOSTERONE. That “manly” whey protein drink you’re downing with soy as the first ingredient doesn’t look so manly anymore, does it.
Girls, don’t think you got off that easily--- no, you don’t want to increase your testosterone, but soy has been linked in recent studies by multiple agencies to an increased occurrence of miscarriages. Soy actually lowers progesterone in the body, thus making your body un-baby friendly. Maybe that protein mix sitting on your counter will be a good contraceptive, but know that it is a lot more permanent damage to your system than the pill.
Ok so now what? What if you could supplement a healthy diet with products that are certified 100% vegan, with no soy products, no whey, but only natural ingredients that will only do your body good? That product actually exists! Arbonne’s protein mix is just that. It comes in two flavors; the vanilla tastes like cake batter and the chocolate is a non-gritty, dark chocolate taste that leaves you wanting more. But then, you don’t. Why? Because you feel FULL. And the best part is you are not full because of added soy products and whey protein that have no nutritional value and actually stop your body from metabolizing the vitamins! So without soy, it seems better already, but Arbonne’s shakes have MORE PROTEIN, too. And it’s not made from soy! Arbonne Essential’s Protein Mix is packed with an impressive 20g of vegan protein. So you might have some doubts now. You look at the package and first thing your eye goes to is the calories. OH NO! 170 calories? You seriously contemplate going back to your Vi-Shape shakes. But listen; have 2 shakes daily in place of meals like you were doing will still only add 340 calories to your day. A person in a COMA needs 1200 calories to maintain adequate body function. You won’t be hungry after your shake because your body is taking in the needed amount of food. 90 calories is NOT SUFFICIENT intake for a meal. You initially lose weight because yes, less calories= less weight….to an extent. However, if you ever stop drinking those shakes, you will put weight back on. Your body will not handle the increased calories well. Also, the vitamins and minerals found in this shake are from plant sources, so they are able to be metabolized! More importantly, you are not putting damaging chemicals into your body. What more can you ask for? You will be satisfied, you will enjoy drinking it, and you will still lose weight.
If you follow Arbonne’s 30 Days to Fit, you will learn to eat properly, eat clean, and you will change your eating habits for life. If that sounds scary to you and those terrible visions of rice cakes dance in your head, relax. It is 100% possible to eat clean and LOVE what you eat. You will feel a change in the first week. You can expect to feel more awake and have less cravings in the first couple of days. Imagine a day where you actually pay attention to what’s going on in your office! (Ok, maybe it’s better NOT knowing…) Either way, I challenge you to try it. If you become a preferred client, you can buy the shakes for $51! That’s HALF the cost of Vi-Shape. Do it! Because all the cool kids are….

Find me relevant studies to back up anything you say is wrong....because I did a lot of research to write this! Would be willing to alter it IF you can correct it!
