Hey guys my name is Amanda. I'm 20 years old, and I weigh 225lbs. I am tall, but that is no excuse to weigh that much! September 9, 2011 I weighted 200lbs exactly. How did this weight come on like that? I really don't know, all I know is that i'm ready for it to be gone.
A few weeks ago I started the 17 day diet(Any opinions on this diet?) and lost a little weight, however gained it all back.
I tried going to the gym, and have seen no result in my body, or how I feel.
The doctor prescribed me Phentermine and i'm curious to see what every body thinks of this as well..
If it gives me results, I don't want to knock it until i've tried it!
Any words of wisdom or personal stories like to be shared??
Any help appreciated!

Welcome Amanda
Where to start. Loosing weight to me is not a diet it is a life change. Maybe that could be a start. People who feel they are dieting have a greater chance of failing. Loosing weight is not simple it takes a lot of hard work. I have been overweight my whole adult life and now have created some health problems on top of that. Its not fun but now I am to the point that I have to which gives me the drive to I want to. Always remember the first few pounds are going to be easy but hitting that platue is a hard hump to get over but it will move once again. I hope this helped you in some way but dont give up because your worth the effort.0 -
Hi Amanda! Lisa is totally right - once you stop thinking of your journey as a diet and starting moving towards making permanent life changes you will start seeing progress. It took almost 5 months of hiking 5-6 miles 5 days a week to start seeing a real difference in my body. The way I see it - there is (unfortunately) no quick answer for weight loss - but you'll get there if you maintain an awareness of everything you eat and it's nutritional value, and get regular daily exercise. Sure - it's a pain in the beginning but the results are worth it! Be careful with that Phentramine - it's a very powerful drug that needs to be used with caution. It can be addictive and can lead to pulmonary hypertension among other things!0

Welcome to MFP. you will get alot of support here and make new friends. We are all here for the same reason. I was up to 212 back in October. I now weigh 160. I just found this site myself 2weeks ago. My friend was on the 17 day diet. She lost 40 pounds. But i think you do better if you just start eating healthier. Stay within your daily calorie range, keep excersising, try to only weigh yourself once a week. Before you know it you will look in the mirror and say to yourself "damn i'm looking good".
Good Luck0 -

Amanda,
I just joined today but have heard about this site for a while. Im starting back myself. I hope your experience with phentermine has been good. I began in May of 2011 and in a little over a year I had lost 119 lbs through calorie counting and exercise. My dr did have me on phentermine during this to help curb appetite, but I have been off of it since Nov of 2013 as I developed Mitral Valve Prolapse. Not sure if it was from the use of Phentermine or if its something that formed over time, it does run in my family. Anyway, Im now returning back to the gym since I have MVP under control. Seeing results doesnt happen over night, but it will progress if you stick with it. Trust me, Im one who never thought I could loose weight but I did and am determined to continue. Keep up the work!0
