Eating out...

I have tried to not eat out if it is at all possible. I need a little advice on how to order at a restaurant and fast food places. I am going to lunch with my girlfriend to a place called Fuzzy's Tacos. The last time I ate there I ordered all of the good stuff. you know the burrito with cheese and this sauce that was to die for. I want to make the right choices.

How do you change the menu items when you order?
Do you ask if they grill with oil?
What hidden secret do you know about and want to share?

If it is a fast "mexican" food restaurant... best thing I have learned is to get the burrito with chicken. Load it up with lettuce, black beans, olives, pico, and maybe a little bit of cheddar... then when you get it to the table - eat the innards, but leave the flower tortilla. Skip the queso and chips. And remember - salsa is bursting with flavor - and has very little calories!

OH - and for other places... order your food - and ask for a to go box. As soon as it hits the table.... cut it in half and put half of it in the to go box and save it for lunch the next day :).

Not every place but a lot of places even fast food joints have nutrition info on their websites. Now before I go anywhere I usually check to see that way I can have an idea of what I'm going to order before I get there.

Some type of chicken or fish is normally a safe bet.

There ought to be something reasonable on the menu which should make itself obvious.

Burger loaded with sauce, cheese and bacon etc, probably not so good.

Caesar salad with grilled chicken, probably ok.

    Just use common sense.

for mexican I usually get a taco salad with chicken and ask for no shell. it has chicken, beans, lettuce, tomato, and a little cheese. i dump my salsa in there kind of like a dressing. it's actually really good and filling!

Sounds like a lesbian bar... like the one in Nashville (Cabaret) that took the place of an old Red Lobster!

http://www.fuzzystacoshop.com/menu.html <-- the salads w/ dressing on the side or the grilled sandwiches seem decent, or the fajita platter w/ light oil, mostly veggies and meat, hold the tortillas

I love fish tacos. You can usually get them grilled, topped with cabbage and avocado. Ask them to put the white sauce on the side. I love Mexican food and always eat way too many chips and salsa - so just ask them not to bring them or include them with your order.

The grilled Mahi Mahi tacos as Baja fresh have 230 calories!

Depends on the salsa, you can get salsa ranging from 5 to 30 cals per tblsp.

I get chicken and grilled shrimp tacos. They come with garlis sauce on the bottom with a thin layer of shredded cheese. Then meat, tons of lettuce and tomato and a little feta. Yum! They arent too bad. My best guess is 150 to 200 a piece. They are pretty big and filling!

The salads are huge! I eat the grilled shrimp with cheese and crushed chips on the side and with salsa as the dressing. That is pretty low cal.

I would go with GRILLED fish, chicken or shrimp tacos in a soft shell. One trick that I use is I add all the taco fillings from one taco into another so I have a HUGE taco but am skipping the extra calories by getting rid of one of the tortillas.... just a thought.... avoid sour cream and guacamole.... :) have a nice day!

I'm making Fajitas for my tea later, I'm having four chicken Fajitas & they only come up to 874 cals, So I'd suggest a chicken dish with no dressings (guacamole, sour cream all that) & either low fat (ask if they have that option) or no cheese.
Lots of salad & Salsa or fresh tomato :]
