Favorites? Do you do other exercise besides Dvd's. What about strength training at home what type of exercises do you do?

I have an assortment of DVDs that include cardio: step / walking / Wii dance)

For strength I have pilates, weighted workouts, body weight workouts, resistance band workouts / Wii Exerbeat

For flexibility I have yoga & athletic stretching (yoga can be strength training, but I prefer Hatha)

collagevideo.com is a great place to figure out what you are interested in. Lots of video clips & reviews. The reviews tell you what equipment you need.

Go to the library & check out a few videos, to find a good "fit." Hulu.com has a Health & Fitness Channel, Netflix streams (A FEW) workouts, but has MANY more for rent.

I used to buy videos right & left. Now I know, I hate Jillian, I can't do difficult choreography, and I'm not a big Tae Bo fan. I'm not saying those exercises are not effective, I am just not motivated to do them. Find what fits YOU.

Step - Christi Taylor / Mission Possible

Walking - Leslie Sansone / Walk Slim 5 Really Big Miles

Circuit (aerobics & toning) Chris Freytag / Walking Cardio Shape Up Max

Pilates - Ana Caban / Pilates Body Band Workout

Stength (weights) - Kelly Coffey Meyer / 30 Minutes to Fitness Weights

Body weight stregth - Kelly Coffey Meyer / 30 Minutes to Fitness Body Training

Yoga - Sara Ivanhoe / Yoga Body Makeover

Wii Exerbeat - this is new for me, but there is LOTS of stuff to do. AFTER you gain enough points .... it becomes a workout. Initially it is SLOW. I think this will be really good.

I have the Insanity DvD set that I've been doing. Currently on week 5.

I don't do any real strength training except for the push ups and squats in the DvDs because I'm currently just trying to burn fat at the moment.

I've got 30 Day shred and P90X2 - Love them both! I find the convenience of working out at home suits at the moment, but I do also go to a belly dancing class and am hoping to add a kettlebell class or perhaps a boot camp - when I think I'm fit enough to handle it in public! lol

I do! Going to a gym just doesn't fit in to my schedule -- plus I don't really enjoy gyms.

I'm currently working my way through Supreme 90Day (which has been described as "the poor man's P90X", lol). I also do Jillian's 30DS and No More Trouble Zones.

My sister really likes Cathe Friedrich -- I'll probably try her next.

Have you gone to collagevideo.com? They have a ton of videos with reviews by fitness instructors, and you can preview them all on line.

I really can't afford a gym membership, so I do alot of at home DVD's. Got most of them from college video.

On DVD, I do Zumba, a bunch of difference Dance aerobics, 30 day Shred, The Firm workouts.

I also walk my dogs everyday, play volleyball 2x a week, and go to a Zumba class 2x a week (although this is the one that I sometimes can't make due to scheduling). I also have Wii fitness, Wii active and a bunch of other Wii workout games.

I seem to get bored if I do the same thing everyday, so I like a nice variety so that I will still work out.

I had jillians 30 day but I couldnt do on the jumping moves. Old ankle injury never healed properly so with all that bouncing all it does was make my ankle bruised and swollen.. ouch. Although I did break a sweat. So yea jillian not for me.

I do have netflix. I think Im gonna do the dance video later today.

Lots of ppl are recommending here and others I talk to the leslie sanson so I may check that out.

I have a gym membership but if I am not awake at 5am I cant go. I have to be there by 515 in order to get a workout in. I do make it to the gym about 3x a week. Its so hard to get up that early. Thanks keep em coming.

I mainly do Turbo Jam & Walk Away the Pounds. Turbo Jam most days, but Walk Away the Pounds if' I've had a busy day and still want to burn some calories, but not be quite as intense. Turbo Jam has some strength videos, Lower Body Jam (which doesn't really work the arms though) and Totally 3T, using resistance bands and then one using weights. I just like to have something to go by instead of trying to come up with my own routine. I will get Turbo Fire and Chalean Extreme at some point, but not for a while.

If you use an eliptical - Leslie may be a little light for you. There are things you can do to bump it up (weights, jogging, bigger arms, even a mini-trampoline) but still might be for a lighter day. Here's a short clip

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnsfbneFQ_8&feature=related

Step aerobics is still low impact. But much more of a challenge than Leslie. These workouts were wildly popular in the 80's. You might find a used "step" at a thrift store (cheap) or else, new is like $30-$40 at Walmart. For basic know how look for Cathe Basic Step or anything Gin Miller (the inventor). There are still new videos that come out, every so often. Youtube has several video clips to get an idea of what this is

I have P90X, Turbo Fire and Brazilian Butt Lift.
I am currently finishing week 7 of P90X and adding one of the Brazilian Butt Lift dvds (High and Tight) to days that are not too crazy.
I used to pay $120/month at the gym for me and my husband. My husband never went and I did but didn't really accomplished anything. I did this for 2 years. Then I decided to buy 90X about 2 years ago and workout at home. That is when I lost 95% of the weight you see in my ticker.

I have tons of other dvd's though. Tomorrow is my last day of my Turbo Fire/Chalean Extreme hybrid!! so I am deciding what to do next and how to mix it up.

I have tons of Jillian Michaels, Jennifer Galardi, and I also have Turbo Jam. I have a lot of 10 Minute Solutions, Walk From Home, Dance Off the Inches, and more still. I think I have over 100 exercise dvd's lol.

Keep looking for new ones. I've HAD several Biggest Loser DVDs too (stopped buying them). I didn't use them, so I traded them away. Amazon.com has a trade-in program for used DVDs. Once you find something you like to do, you will stick with it.

collagevideo.com will give you lots of ideas. There are videoclips & reviews.

Netflix rental ...... lots of videos. You can "test drive" them to see what you like (or hate).

Re: Netflix streaming ........ my favorite is Crunch Super Slimdown ..... Ellen Barrett is wonderful.
  • I'm currently trying a 7 day "free trial" at the gym. By day 2 I had already decided that I hate the gym. And I discovered that I am burning more calories by working out at home to DVDs. You dont have to worry about forgetting something, no worrying about what you look like (I do it and I'm sure other people do too), and you're totally in your element because your surroundings are yours. I just start the DVD and plow through it without worrying about anything. Other than my hubby staring at my butt anyways. LOL.

Strength training also burns fat. Lean muscle mass enhances the calorie burn that you get with cardio. More muscle mass needs more energy (calories). After a good strength training your body continues to burn fat, even at rest. For the ultimate results, you should incorporate strenth training (weight lifting) with your cardio.

I like the Ripped series of DVD's by Jari Love (she is from Calgary Alberta so not sure they are widely available).
GaiamTV.com has a ton of workouts on it....and reasonably priced (9.95 per month unlimited)

I have a couple dvds, but discovered Netflix's has lots of videos available for streaming so now that's what I use! They have quite a few 10 Minute Solution videos- there are 5- 10 minute work-outs per video so you can do them all or pick and choose...so no getting bored! So far I've been using the kickboxing one and Carb and Calorie Burner.
I also do some strength training, too...just 3 pound weights and a resistance band, and calisthenics as well.

I do Turbo Jam about 5 days a week and yesterday I added Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30. I love both of them. I also have a couple yoga videos by Denise Austin that I do on weekends or week nights depending on how I'm feeling by evenings since I do my workouts early mornings.
