Bizarre sight at the gym today

I have trouble in classes, when people are using such bad form...I am not an expert, but it distracts me so much, there are some classes that I have stopped attending. I get so wrapped up in the potential for injury that I can't even focus. I just hope that poor woman doesn't hurt herself....0

Sounds like we go to the same gym..lol
quote]There is a woman that goes to our gym and takes up a treadmill for an hour. She sets the treadmill for about 8 or 9 and will be able to keep up for maybe a minute and then she holds at least half her weight with with the sides for a while (several minutes) and runs on her toes (sort of) and then she goes back to running again. This goes on for a long time. Then she will go off the sides and stretch and then keep going. I know she's very proud of herself for being on there for an hour, but she isn't really doing much for herself. I get really irritated when I want to do intervals and she's hogging one of the machines....

I saw someone put both feet on one side of the elliptical then started to move like she was rowing a boat. I was worried about the damage she's probably causes to the machines.0

not sure what that lady in the video was trying to accomplish...but okay. Very odd.
As far as crunches with a Lat Pull Down - that is a way of doing a "weighted crunch" - It actually does work if done correctly. Though I personally prefer to do them with a weight plate or dumbbell on your chest, while on the floor.
Though I rarely do many floor crunches now, as I do other things to accomplish the same thing, more effectively for me. But I have done them in the past with a Lat Machine, or weight plate on the floor.0 -
I saw a girl exercising with a bump-it in her hair. I nearly fell off my elliptical trying to contain my snicker.0

The other day at the gym, I saw this guy doing push ups with his feet on top of one Swiss ball and his hands on top of another. I could _almost_ understand this exercise if he had the core strength and balance to pull it off, but he was just flopping around and falling into the mat several times per push up. It was comical, if not practical.0

Last week I was running on the treadmill and the girl next to me started running too. She was very tall and lanky and her stride was completely over exaggerated. Her arms would shoot up in front of her fully stretched out and her legs would make the largest stride possible. She was only running at 5 mph and she'd stop after a couple minutes, then walk but while walking, she would hang on to the arm rests and use them to support her like she was dying. Then she'd do it over again. She kept glancing at me every couple of minutes. I tried not to look at her because her stride was so crazy that it was throwing me off balance. It was the weirdest looking run I've ever seen. I thought about asking her if this was some new technique in running that I should know about, but thought better of it.0

So I was on the elliptical, which faces the mini circuit in my gym. There is a lat pulldown machine. I saw a woman hop on doing the most random stuff. First she pulled down the bar and was in a crunch position on the seat. Then she started doing squats while pulling down the bar. Everyone was looking at her like "what is she doing?"
Has anyone else seen some unconventional uses for the machines?
I used to lean back about 45 degrees, and then do pull downs from that angle. hit my core real well0 -

LMAO! Oh my gosh I would have lost it if I had seen that at the gym.0 -

I had the misfortune of running next to two 30-somethings who were in jeans, sweaters, and apparently had no spacial awareness, and were not only doing a terrible job keeping up with the paces they set (probably a 4.0mph, trying to speed walk), but the woman was constantly yelling at the guy and pushing the buttons on his machine, and screeching things loud enough to interfere with my playlist. and then she had the audacity to stand in the locker area with him (they're open air, the showers are in private restrooms) while us guys are trying to get our gym bags in order, etc.0 -
I was at the gym the other day and saw this lady using the lower back machines. After she got done doing the exercise she stood up and bent over and started pushing it with her butt while holding on to the handles in front of her. It made me really uncomfortable because it seriously looked like a doggy style position. She was going really slow and had her eyes closed and was breathing really heavy. The whole time I was thinking to myself, is this lady tripping or did someone really show her to use this machine this way. I'm no one to judge because Im sure people use machines in different ways all the time but this just made me uncomfortable..0
