Cycling shorts too small?

Hi there,

I just started training for a long bike ride and this evening I went shopping and bought my first set of cycling clothes.

The shorts are a size large, which I thought would be ok, but they're really quite tight.

I imagine that they're sorta supposed to be like that? To what extent are they meant to be a tight fit? What's the right sorta of fit?

I have to pull pretty hard to get them on, and then pull the crotch up more to get it to fit properly, but I dunno if this is how they're meant to be worn?

Mine are snug, but I don't have to work very hard or struggle to get them on. The idea is that you want them tight enough so that the pad stays in place. If they are too loose, the pad will shift or sag and they can become quite uncomfortable.

In that case mine are definitely too small, as I could go up a size and they would still be plenty tight enough to stay in place.

I'll return them tomorrow and exchange for the XL.

    Cheers!
