Saying Hi - Add If You Want

I have slowly stopped using other social networks, primarily Facebook, I have started stalking the posts at MFP to see what this is all about. Finally this week I had enough with drama and I cut ties with Facebook. Figure I will throw my hat into this social arena...I still plan on being a smart *kitten* here and I will probably say things that piss some people I connect with off...but at least here we are connecting with the goal of being healthier (whatever that means).
2 little nuggets about me...
1 - At one point of my life I was fit....1989 I paid for my gym membership by working as a personal trainer. I understand now what I should have been doing for the last 20 years - I just made excuses not to do it. Youth is certainly wasted on the young.
2 - Over the last 6 months (Aug 2011) I have been going through the requirements for gastric by-pass surgery (My wife had it 5 years ago). On November 22, 2011, something inside of me snapped. I decided that day I wanted to do it on my own without surgery. I completed the program but have put surgery on permanent hold. To date I have lost an average of 3 lbs per week incorporating good eating, cardio and strength training. These results are similar to what I would have experienced with by pass or lap band.
I'm not looking to have a million friends ..I'm looking to laugh and joke and learn with people like me.
Feel free to add me if you want. If not - no hard feelings.
Stay Beautiful!!!

This is a great site for encouragement and good for you wanting to do it on your own. I know we can. No quick fixes, just common sense and good old fashioned work. Thanks for sharing!0

I'm glad you decided to go it without the Gastric Bypass Surgery. A good friend of my Dad's from work had a Lap Band put in & a few years ago. She dropped a bunch of weight very quickly... and last week actually had to be rushed to the emergency room with crippling abdominal pain. They opened her up and found that half of her digestive tract had gone necrotic; black, & diseased... she actually DIED as a result.
A co-worker of mine had Gastric Bypass Surgery two years ago. He lost 150lbs in about 11 months (a whole ME), and his personality changed. He kind of... cracked... & stopped being able to do his job properly. He started having a lot of mental problems, & eventually lost his job. The last I heard about him, he was an outpatient at a mental hospital. And he'd had to have his surgery reversed.
I hate the surgeries. I know they help some people... but they can do so much hurt. The only people I know who have had them have both had terrible experiences.
I know you can do so much better here. It's a wonderful, supportive environment where people have lots of help and ideas to get you motivated & keep you there. I'm sure you'll get your goal... & get to it the right way.0
