Okay so my right knee has been acting up for over 3 months now. When I am moving/exercising ect it doesn't hurt at all, only when it's been still for a while. So when in bed, sitting on the couch, in the car ect. It's like a throbbing and it stiffens up, if I extend it you can hear a sort of popping/cracking noise. Not sure what to do? Been to the Doctor and he said it's nothing but this can't be nothing if it's so consistent?

it sounds like some sort of osteoarthritis.

and yes it can happen in young people. i wouldnt see a primary care doc. i'd go see an orthopedic doc who specializes in this sort of thing.

My doctor wasnt worried about my knee pain at first. I saw a physio and went for a few months, then when my knee pain didn't resolve, I went back to the dr and he straight away gave me a referral to have an MRI.

I'm havening knee surgery on Monday to fix mine.

Do you run? Sounds like runners knee. I have it at the moment - fine when I'm moving around, and i can even run fine with it, but when I rest for any time it seizes up. Can't kneel on it either. Physio can give exercises to sort it (seeing mine next week). Usually need to strengthen inner thigh muscles to bring the knee cap back into alignment.

I have only started working walks/jogs into my exercise regime AFTER these pains started, but it could be that. It ACHES to put direct pressure on (kneeling).

Go see a physio and see if it settles down after treatment. If it does, it's likely not arthritis.
  • I've had some similar issues in the past and present. I saw an orthopedic doctor that specializes in sports medicine. I wanted someone who understood how important being active is to me and wanted some more understanding on how I can still be active and not really hurt myself. I had an MRI, which determine some osteoarthritis in my knee, went to PT for a while to learn some different stretches and strength moves and after a bit of time, got right back at it. It was really helpful overall to me! I would see an orthopedic doctor and go from there.....good luck!!
