Has anyone had metabolic testing done?

I did mine this morning and get my results on Monday. I had the oxygen mask on and they did my rest test (laying in recliner and just breathing in the tube) and then got on a bike and was gradually tested on different levels/watts with the mask on. I looked so silly. LOL! i'm hoping to get an accurate TDDE and BMR number from this and base my calories on it. I also may be working out to hard and just be burning sugars/carbs most of the time. They will give me exercises that keep me in my most efficient zones too. Has anyone else done this? What did you get out of it? Thanks!

All you need is the TDDE and BMR. All the rest is garbage.

I have, but you really have to be careful not to have any stimulants in your system like caffeine or asthma medications, they will skew the results. I've found that my Fitbit helped a lot more than my Metachek test did.
  • How much does it cost to have done?

I'd love to take this test.
I'm using a Fitbit now and it says I've "active". I have a hard time gaining weight and so I bought one to see just how much I move around...I guess I do more than I think I do.

No, but I would also be interested in a ballpark cost.

I had to rest the day before, come in fasting...so no caffeine etc. It was done very well. I had a massive coffee and breakfast in my bag waiting! LOL!
I'm an instructor at the gym so I got the "member" discount which was 159 for both tests. I thought that was pretty good! For non-members it's 140 EACH test.

I had mine done.. I went in fasting and laid on the couch while breathing in the machine. She printed my results out right then and there.. I have a fast metabolism. 1962. Both my nutritionist and I were very surprised! I've since upped my calories and seeing if it works!

I hope your results are good! :)

Me too! My biggest fear is hearing them say it's like 1100. LOL. That would be brutal considering how much exercise I do each week. Is the number they give you what you EAT or is it what you NET?

Good luck! I've never had that done but am super interested to hear what the results are! Keep up the hard work =)
  • I've had this done and found it kind of a waste of time and money to be honest. My estimates at calories before hand was close to the official number they handed out anyway. The thing I did find helpful was getting my heart rate zones accurately. The issue with that is that you need to re-test every 6-12 months if you exercise regularly because your heart becomes more efficient.
    Good luck though.
