Eating 1200+ a day

I try to eat around 1200-1300 calories a day, as I'm short, flabby, and fairly sedentary. However, when I'm eating, I often think that what I'm eating has more calories than it actually has - for example, today I ate less beef, less trifle, and less turkey than the portion size, because I didn't want to overeat, then got my phone, checked the calories, and saw that they were fine. Does anyone else have this problem?
