Skiing injury

When I was skiing last month I twisted my medial knee ligament (the one that runs down the inside edge of your knee). Most of the time now it's not too bad, I can put weight on it, and walk with no problems.
I still can't always straighten my leg fully though, and any sort of twisting motion aggravates it.
Any ideas for exercises to build the surrounding supporting muscles? I want to start running more but at the moment it's a bit of a no go

what a bummer! is there a physical therapist that you could call and get advice from? a couple places around here will give you free advice on exercises to strengthen muscles (my husband's shoulder used to pop out all the time) even if you don't go there.0
