do you ever look up things on webmd and freak yourself out?

i have been having some bowel issues *blush* and i didn't want to make yet another appointment with my doctor unless it was something noteworthy. i decided to look it up. when i entered the symptoms in webmd, the ONLY illness that came back was colon cancer. ummm, yeah, i don't think i have colon cancer, but now i am totally wigged out that nothing else appeared as a possibility (since i was thinking more along the lines of a medication or gallbladder issue). lol. anyway, i will make an appointment with my doctor next week just so it's not in the back of my mind.

has anyone else freaked themselves out over an imaginary diagnosis? share your story and make me laugh. :)

Can't remember any specifics. I don't go on there for that very reason. Every time I've looked up symptoms it gives me some very serious illness.

I do it here & there...but then I convince myself that I'm a hypochondriac & move on with my day ;) If you don't feel like dealing with the copay, talk to the nurse at your doctor's office & see if they have any suggestions or think it's worth it for you to make an appointment.

I am in medical school. We have to know illnesses inside and out. Even though we have a saying "think horses when you see hoove prints, not Zebras" the knowlege still makes your mind wonder from time to time and invoke some serious hypochodriasis.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

we did that for my husband. Decided according to webmd that he was having a reaction to some medication he was taking at the time.....turns out he had leukemia......lesson learned.......stay off webmd.....or interent period for self diagnosing........see a dr. asap!

according to WebMD, with my "bowel issues" i either have a parasite or colon cancer. or an ulcer, gastritis, gastroenteritis, IBS, or i'm pregnant.

i'd make an appointment with your doctor!

I do the same thing as girlnamedlee said! I go on and get freaked out... then I think, I'm crazy, that is not what is wrong with me! I am a natural worrier, so I try to stay away from Wedmd because it brings out the unnecessary worry! A lot bowel problems turn out to be irritable bowel syndrome and the doctor usually just prescribes Prilosec or Nexium for it. I have that problem I was told years ago...It took then like 6 tests to figure that out, which is funny bc it is quite common for people to have it! Good luck to you!

I was in the same boat and I was convinced that I had butt cancer. Turned out I just needed to lose some weight. Now I can lay rope like a pro.

Yeah, we went onto WebMD and thought for sure my husband had throat cancer. Turns out, he just needed his tonsils removed

And just to add, we've never been back on WebMD ever again and never plan to in the future. Ruined our whole Thanksgiving. :grumble:

No, but I call my sister and freak her out. True story, she tells me something about herself, I do research, then I call her, then she is always freaked out.
