mfp and calculating cardio calories

does anyone know how mfp calculates cardio calories? I enter time and it spits out calories but it doesn't seem to factor intensity or resistance. this I ponder as I await delivery of my hrm.

I really don't know how they are calculated, but I find them very, very generous. Perhaps they are valid for a large guy, but you'll do best to count on your hrm. Good luck!0

It goes by your age, gender, weight and the time you enter, but obviously some are going to be more accurate than others. One like the elliptical, which doesn't have any variables for speed or resistance, can't possibly be accurate. Running or walking, if you know your pace, is a lot closer to accurate.0

On our elliptical you can vary speed and resistance, but I don't use MFP for calories burned. It always says way more than the machine says. If you really want to know there is a formula you can use to calculate it, but too much trouble to me. I'd rather invest in an HRM.0
