I´m sure it happens to everybody: instead of the piece of fruit, you want an ice-cream, or you are full, and are about to eat another portion of Quiche Lorraine.... But you you manage not to because....
(for example, I brush my teeth right after eating, or never go to the supermarket on an empty stomach, or drink a glass of water before meals, or "pre-log" the calories of some fattening food on MFP, and realize that eating it it´s not worth the calories)

I think about my jeans. My lovely, faded, comfy pre-pregnancy size jeans that I can't even pull up over my thighs right now. Then the chocolate bar/chips/pop/whatever looks so much less appetizing.0

I often chew gum while DH eats his treats. I love the Extra Dessert Delights flavors. Sometimes I will suck on a piece of sugar free hard candy.0

I tend to want to eat at night. Instead I make a cup of herbal tea and knit or crochet. While it can be done, eating while knitting usually proves disastrous.0

I have been trying to really think things through. A tip I heard a long time ago was drink a cold glass of water and wait a bit and then see if you still have the craving.
I have stocked up on some healthier sweet things. I have never really been much of a yogurt fan but I tried that Chobani Greek Yogurt with fruit on the bottom. They have quite a few flavors, some with 0% fat and some with 2%, with between 120 - 150 calories a serving. It gives me the sweet I crave but also the calcium that I know don't get enough of, and fills me up.0 -

I usually want to eat something at night - if I'm genuinely hungry I eat a tsp of peanut butter. My trainer told me that the fat and protein tend to help stave off the hunger and it WORKS! If I'm up to it I'll just drink a cup of tea and that helps the munchies. I still haven't found replacements for my craving for chips or candy - although the mini boxes of Mike and Ikes help a LOT in a pinch!0

I usually have a cup of green tea. If the cravings are really bad I'll just go out for a quick walk. Sometimes getting your mind off what you're craving really helps0

Artic Zero with Fat Free Redi Whip. I used to eat up to a pint of ice cream every night, with tons of whipped cream. I have found that Artic Zero has helped curb that. 1/2 cup is 37 calories & i still get me ice cream fix. My other trick is to make sure I eat several times a day. If I dont, its more likely that i will give in to the cravings.0

I learned in nutrition class a few years ago to allow your cravings. If you want some chips have 2 or 3, if you want some ice cream have a few spoonfuls. Otherwise you think about it and it consumes you. Then instead of a little bite to tide your craving you end up with an empty bag of chips or an empty gallon of ice cream and a whole lot of guilt.0

I slug a glass of cold water. Often our body confuses thirst with hunger. I have the water, then wait 15 minutes. If I still crave, maybe I am actually hungry and have something to eat! (something good for me of course)!0

If I am at work and can't do anything to get the craving or wanting to snack feeling to go away I chew gum most are only 5 calories a piece. If I am at home I try to get my mind off of it by working out, doing house work, getting on here to read encouraging words, read or what ever else I can find to get my hands on and mind off food.0

Yep! That's what I do as well - tea and knitting. This winter I knitted two hats and I'm halfway through my seventh scarf. Clearly, I get a lot of cravings. :laugh:0 -

Sometimes I use logic and tell myself I already know what that treat tastes like, so I don't need to try it again. I also have pictures of skinny people I admire to look at.0
