can you eat eggs?
x
Yes, great source of protein. Try to keep it egg whites only if you have high cholesterol.
Dietary cholesterol and blood cholesterol don't correlate as closely as once thought. Eating an egg yolk or two a day will have very little if any effect on blood readings. That's the current thought anyway.0 -
OH I still have carbs, just whole grain versions of the white. whole grain flour, WG rice or wild, WG pasta.....
That's us too. We switched about 6 months ago and just eat all whole grains and no additives. So I bake pretty much all our bread/muffins/waffles etc. We eat whole grain pasta, rice, I make our crackers when we have them. I still probably eat too many carbs. I love carbs. Mmmmm... The funny thing is now I have gotten where I prefer whole wheat bread/pasta over white. White bread tastes like air and just denigrates in my mouth, LOL. I like some substance to my bread/pasta.
Initially it was a hard transition for me but now I prefer it. My wife makes graham crackers from scratch, they're great.
would like to make the crackers from scratch, hadn't thought of that before, did she get the recipe from the internet?

Make substitutions as necessary for the flour, etc...0 -
When I started counting the calories (1300 per day) I didn't payed much attention to the whole clean/healthy thing. I just needed to stay under that goal but then, when you start paying attention to the foods you're eating and the labels you start noticing that MAYBE some healthy choices may have the same calories that one tiny piece of junk, and this way, eating better, you'll feel more full .
I'll give you an example: 1 snickers bar is about 270 cal. (more or less). You eat the chocolate and think "wow I still have more calories to eat through the day AND I'm allowed to eat chocolate!) but after 1h max. you're hungry and craving food again, because your body absorbs the sugar really fast.
Now, with 270 cal you could have a whole weat small baguette filled with fresh cheese or a tbs of peanut butter and have a glass of skimmed milk. You would feel full and wouldn't be craving as soon as you would with the Snickers bar.
This is just my input that I took from my own personal experience and examples. Worked for me.
Plus, clean eating + drinking water, like 2 litres per day will improve your skin quality, it prevents stretch marks and cellulities.
I still want to loose weight and tone more but at least I don't have stretch marks and I've noticed that my cellulities is disappearing.0 -

^^^ Yes, completely agree !
Same happened to me.0 -
clean eating is more important than calorie counting in my book.
I was on 1200 cal for ages and although I lost some weight its tough, 1200 calories really isn't a lot. I did eat pretty clean anyway but I started Jamie Eason Live Fit this year and since then eat perfectly clean but way more calories anything from 1400-1800 calories. Weight is dropping off.
Its more about the quality of the food than the calories. I really sped my metabolism up by eating more, and more frequently.0 -
the more i am reading the more excited i am to get started
need to get to the supermarket today and get some fresh things in and i am good to go x0 -
Clean eating certainly does help with the cravings- try to eat smaller meals every 3 hours to keep your blood sugar stable this will also help with the cravings.
You can eat eggs - some people prefer to eat just egg whites but I prefer the whole egg.
The carbs I eat are oats, sweet potato, brown rice, veggies and quinoa. Quinoa is a really good carb choice as it is high in protein too.
Godo luck0 -
I eat clean 90% of the time, although inevitably there are meals out here and there, and situations where this isn't possible.
Eggs are great - I eat the whole egg... definitely not a fan of the whites only. Besides, the egg is a little package of genius... so many valuable nutrients in there, it'd be madness to throw away the yolk!
Eating clean, as well as seasonably will probably make you find it easier on your monthly food bill too... those prepacked foods are damn expensive, especially if you eat them regularly! A bag of quinoa and drawer full of fresh fruit and veggies goes a long long way and your body will thank you for it.

I eat cleaner mostly because I want to support my local economy and protect local farmland. For me it is principle more than anything else. I eat 75% clean, 75% organic and about 65% local (this number is increasing). I don't always spring for organic meat, but I stick with local and natural (besides seafood).
Oh and I think all of the food additives are probably causing our health problems, so I try to eat minimally processed because I figure my relatives that lived to be 100 didn't do that because of mile long ingredient lists.
No clue if there are actually weight loss benefits, as I have been eating this way (in different portions) for the last 5-8 years.0 -
This is something I have been wanting to try. I am slowly working prepackaged foods out of my diet, getting rid of soda and adding more fruits and veggies. I can't have dairy due to a skin allergy so I am working on trying soy, almond and rice milk. I am adding more beans as well. Now to work on whole grains. Its a work in progress for me, but I am getting there. I know that I feel better on days I eat better. I have a kindle, so I am going to look for that book you found about clean eating. And I think now I will look into more local products. Back in AZ I would know where and who to go to for them, but here in TX I'm not sure. Time to talk to people and check the internet. Thank you for starting this topic.0
