Are any of these labeled foods okay for you, or are they mostly processed chemical crap? Should I stop using my light ranch dressing, 98% fat free cream of mushroom soup, Edy's Grand Light Slow Churned ice cream, etc.? Just trying to figure this out so I can eat "cleaner"? Thanks!

  • The best rule for eating cleaner....if you can't read/don't know what most of the ingredients on the label are, its not a good choice. With processed food, when you eliminate fat you almost always gain sugar and salt.

In pretty much any option, the fewer the ingredients the better it is for you. i don't search out lowfat, diet, sugar free, fat free (I particularly hate fat free....read your labels this almost always means more sugar) I do choose lowfat or nonfat options for dairy but only if it was simply made from skim milk, and there aren't a million additives to "replace" the fat.

Eat as many fresh, unprocessed foods as you can, and read the labels when you're buying anything packaged.

Be careful because sometimes these things have a LOT of salt to make them taste better.... best advice is to read the labels. Sometimes they are just replacing the whole cream with skim milk, but other times they toss in preservatives and flavours (natural and artificial flavours on labels = icky)

I know not everyone has the time, but on the weekends I have the time to make everything. I started making my own dressings, soups, breads and ice cream. If I can make it, I do. I make everything on the weekends for the week so during the week I'm good to go. If I don't have the time to make some meals I just prep everything (cutting veggies, making sauces, grilling chicken, etc.) I found that during the week I just need to come home throw everything in the pot and it takes less than 30 minutes. The best way is to do it yourself instead of buying it.

Personally, I'd rather eat real & have less.
Sometimes when I mention recipes here I say low fat, but I don't really use those products.:ohwell:
I just don't want to get a lot of flack from everyone.

Same... have you ever tasted 'fat free' processed cheese? YUCK! I'd rather just eat a little bit of the real stuff and exercise it off later.
