Struggling...

So I'm just looking, I suppose, for words of encouragement? But mostly, if anyone has gone through this, how did you over come it.

6 months ago I was in tip top shape. Eating perfectly, exercising daily. Then I moved across the country, and with "life" struggles, I quit exercising and started eating poorly. I'm now finally back in focus, getting back in the gym and eating healthier. The eating healthy part isn't hard, but where I'm struggling is when I work out, I try to pick up where I left off. I'm having trouble dealing with the fact that I simply can't work out at the same intensity as I did 6 months ago. This, both, discourages me, and burns me out every time I work out. I know I need to lower my intensity both in my mind and on the floor, but it's more difficult than I imagined. I go to the gym with a plan, and half way through I realize I need to change it.

I guess I'm just seeing if anyone out there is going through the same things. What are you doing to overcome this? How are you handling it?

Thanks for any responses!

Edit: I also gained 20 lbs (from 176 to 196) in the 6 months.

It seems you are aware that your body isn't' where it was several months ago. So you shouldn't be expecting and planning your workouts around where you were then but where you are now. Make a new routine and stick with it until you feel you can get through it well and are ready to move up. You were there before you will get there again. It's unfair of you to feel disappointed in yourself because you are up and trying which is so much more than so many others are doing. It takes time but you will be back there with your hard work and eating right. The more you set yourself up for failure the harder it will be when you feel you have failed. Make you goals attainable then up them when you get there and make harder ones then. You can do it and will do it i'm sure. Keep it up!
