grab some fruit like apple slices or carrots to munch on they are great
  • Air popped popcorn lightly salted

    20 calories per cup.

Use a bit of light cooking non stick spray to help the salt stick instead of butter. Or get the powdered flavorings.

I had like 8 cups last night watching spinal tap with my little brother. lasted us the whole movie.

i cut my apple into like 150-20 pieces and nibble the entire time.

Eating while watching TV is probably the MOST DIFFICULT part for me too.

I know it took some time to get used to. Definitely a snack where quantity over quality is desired.

I found tv always made me want to eat. Especially the late night hamburger and pizza commercials. So I gave up watching Tv.

Or try rice cakes or crispy minis. You can eat a lot without feeling guilty because they are generally low-cal, high flavor. And the crunch keeps your mouth "busy" while watching TV.

Definitely try the cut up fruit or veggies. I have also heard that frozen grapes are good for this. Or even frozen peas...haha.

carrot sticks are great one for me as I like to nibble when I'm studying.

You could always get a treadmill or step in front of the TV, burn off some calories whilst watching, and then eat your snacks too

I do the same thing. Read the book "Mindless Eating". Very informative on this subject :)

In the meantime, if you can't stop snacking, find snack alternatives. The ones previously mentioned are excellent suggestions. Also, you get used to the popcorn over time.

Suck it up and exercise your self discipline. Every time the urge to snack hits you, remind yourself of your goal.

If all you want is crunch and something to do sort of thing you can always eat crushed ice haha! All it will add to your diary is water. ;)

I eat green peas when I watch tv sometimes, I eat them with a fork - because it takes ages that way so it keeps me occupied. Frozen grapes and/or berries is another one. Or raw almonds, if you have room for the calories.

I stretch during shows. No joke, I just get on the floor and stretch out while watching TV, switching positions every few minutes. I got into the habit when I was in gymnastics many years ago, and never got out of it.

I have a water bottle with a straw in it so you suck on it to drink. I now am into the habit instead of stuffing my face with candy, I stuff my face with water. The sucking helps deter the cravings as much as the water itself. If I do get hungry, my favorite snack it to microwave a baby bell light cheese (50 cal.) until it melts and hardens up slightly. Yum. Also there are sugar-free popsicles at about 20 cals each.

I guzzle water, CHEW GUM and if I must eat (because I'm HUNGRY) I choose low calorie popcorn. The smart pop bags only have about 200 calories in them. They make 100 calorie bags as well.

I second this! This is merely habit that you have formed. A bad one. Substitute it with movement or just doing nothing but enjoying 30 min or an hour of rest. At first it is hard, but with time and discipline, you will form a better habit.

Watch it while you're on the treadmill or the elliptical? Kind of hard to watch, eat AND exercise at the same time! Not only would you be eliminating the snacking, you'd be burning away calories, too.

I either plan for it, so I have some extra calories to spare, or I go with the "drink something instead" option. Black coffee, flavored water, and Coke Zero are the things I reach for when I'm feeling munchy, but don't want to eat.

An apple and/or 30 pistachios (roasted, unsalted in the shell).

    ^Same here ^
I either plan for it with my daily calorie consumption or I will have some Diet Pepsi which takes the craving away for me. If I'm craving something sweet (usually I crave salt - chips, etc) I will have a mug of low-cal hot chocolate made with 95% water, 5% milk.
