Anyone have any idea how to make my muscular legs smaller? None of my jeans fit and I am not doing any extensive weight training. I need to lose about 8-10 lbs..do you think that would help?

Have you gained weight recently that would make the jeans tighter? If so, then yes, losing the weight you've gained will probably help, and the gain was probably in the form of fat not muscle (unless you were doing heavy weight training).

    Agreed!

I've gained a fair amount of muscle through heavy lifting and a calorie surplus. Hardly any of my jeans fit anymore. Then again, I've gained around 10lbs of fat for 5/6lbs muscle. I'm fairly confident that once the fat goes, I'll fit into those jeans again even with the increased muscle mass :)

Muscle is really dense so takes up way less room than the same weight of fat. I'd re-assess the situation once you've lost the 8-10lbs you say you need to lose :)

The bad news - your body shape is going to be your body shape. Are you old enough to remember the gymnast Mary Lou Retton? Google her. She had huge legs and never could do anything about it.

I had hopes about my calves when I started losing - they're almost as big around as my thighs. Well my calves shrunk a huge amount, but so did my thighs, so my much-smaller calves are still nearly the same size as my much-smaller thighs. Can't fix it.

Boot-cuts and flares are your friend.

I have 'muscular legs', even at my thinnest years (16 yrs) ago I still looked like a gymnast but I was a size three or smaller at 100 pounds. Even the pants I wore then were a bit snugger in the leg area... I don't know what to say, but running and swimming are the exercises that worked best for me, I like to bike too, but my legs usually were even bigger. Personally I love the fit 'gymnast' look, and I hope I can get there again, big thighs and all. I'm always telling everyone that I'd love to have the body I hated in my 20's, lol.

EMBRACE it. I have huge muscular legs and the more I work out, the more I appreciate them.

You can wear short little shorts and skirts and not have to worry about cellulite. I get compliments all the time for my strong legs. I'm sure all the muscle in them raises my metabolism so I can eat more food! Plus I LOVE the envious stares I get from many women at the gym when they look at my legs :) My calves are more toned than my boyfriends and he loves it!

learn to love your muscles, they do you good.

What's with all the calf hate? I have pathetic skinny stick legs and would kill for some calves.

I used to think my legs were super muscular but it turns out they were just fat. When I started weight training harder they actually got smaller.

I have also always had chunky, muscular claves which I felt bad about. But now after 5 months of hitting the gym, going for runs and most importantly having a healthier diet they have become one of my favourite features. You can't do anything about genetics, as others have rightly said, but you can do something about the fat around your legs. If you gain muscle and have fat on top of that your legs will look huge. But if you get your body fat % down the muscles will start to show. Instead of chunky you'll have well defined.

In the end don't worry about the smaller picture of how one particular body part looks. Keep in mind the bigger picture of a healthier you :)
