:flowerforyou: On May 29th - May 30th, I will be participating in the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life event in Athens, Ohio. :flowerforyou:
Relay For Life® is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people worldwide to:
* CELEBRATE the lives of those who have battled cancer. The strength of survivors inspires others to continue to fight.
* REMEMBER loved ones lost to the disease. At Relay, people who have walked alongside people battling cancer can grieve and find healing.
* FIGHT BACK. We Relay because we have been touched by cancer and desperately want to put an end to the disease.
Another reason I participate in this even is to raise money for the American Cancer Society by asking for donations from my family, friends, and community. I consider this website a community determined to improve their quality of life with a common goal of living a long and healthy life. I believe that it is also safe to say that all of us have been touched by cancer in some way, large or small. I relay because I know the devastating pain that comes with cancer, and I have hope that some day, we will have The Cure. I hope that through my volunteering with the American Cancer Society, I can say I helped to find The Cure; and if you can get involved and donate any amount at all, you can help too! If you would like to donate, or find out more information about Relay for Life, please copy and paste the link below to bring up the website. (Be sure to include the entire link ending with the number 8). I very much appreciate your support!!

I will for sure donate when I get paid next week! My family and I plan on doing a relay for life this spring/summer as well. It will be our first, so we're a little confused on the rules. Is there a set amount that we need to raise in order to participate? Is there a deadline for organizing our team and what is the deadline for fundraising?
I am very excited about it....I lost my mom to leukemia almost 5 years ago and I believe my dad has been cancer free for almost 5 years (prostate cancer). Good luck with your fundraising and walk!0 -

Thank you so much for donating! Be sure to let me know when you sign up so I can return the favor! :flowerforyou:
This is my first time doing the Relay for Life. I signed up with a team that was already formed, but the first step would be to sign up your family and yourself as a team. I believe they request $10 to sign up, and they set a goal of raising $100 through donations. I set my goal at $200 and am about 60% to that goal. Of course, I would love to raise more than $200. It is a little strange because the relay lasts through the night. Starting usually around 7pm and ending around noon the following day. One member from each team is supposed to be on the track at all times. Sounds strange, but there is a story behind why it is done that way, which you can find on the website. I am really excited to incorporate volunteer work into my exercise! It is really inspiring to think that 3.5 million people come together for this cause. Good luck to you!0 -

Thanks! So is that donation amount what each person has to raise, or the entire team? I am so excited about it, but we need to sit down and pick a date....my family is such procrastinators:grumble:0 -
Each person chooses their personal goal. You don't HAVE to raise you goal (or really any money) in order to participate, but they do ask for at least a $10 personal donation to sign up. You get a tshirt and everything at the event.
You should just take the role as the team captain and get started on it so your family can't procrastinate.0 -
I participated in Relay for Life when I lived in Florida last year and it was great. Our company donated $5,000. My son and I along with many others sleep in tents and walked alot.0
