I am a single mom with a 3yr old boy & I am 5'2". I started here in January 2012 at 166lbs. I am now down to 161lbs...Yay me!! But I am losing so slowly & having trouble getting motivated to exercise. Would love to know how to tell what body type I am also (Apple, Pear, Etc) under all of this flab. Any advice on how to get & stay motivated. Also, any advice on how to strength train to get my muscles in shape & help me lose weight better. I don't want to bulk up, I just want to tone up. Thanks in advance for any advice, help or friends I make on here. I think finding friends on here would help me more than anything.

Welcome. Congrats on your weight loss. I have to have variety in my work outs. So I do zumba and use the ellpitcal at the gym. I also use the weights there. I break up my workouts as biceps, tricpes, back, chest and shoulders. I do a different one every day for about 15 min. I havent bulked up at all. I walk and use the wii at home to do zumba or just dance and have 2 dvds $8.00 from walmart. I do abs and legs at home also. I have no set routine....thats what keeps it fun for me. Mabye try taking your son to the park and play tag. Keeping up with them is always a work out :) Good luck!

not sure about body type but there's a book I highly recommend called Rethinking Thin. It explains that no matter what your weight (even if it was above the BMI recs), a good goal is to try to get back to what you weighed when you graduated high school. so for me that's 5'2" and 140 lbs which is exactly where I am right now. I'm assuming that's why I am not dropping lbs still. ok with that, mostly tracking to prevent gain.

also, don't worry about "bulking up"--you'll feel results, but you aren't gonna look weird in a muscular way unless you take illegal drugs to help you. just find something physical that is really fun for you.

PS Lots of moms with a little one run with the jogging strollers. :)
