Vitamins / Omega 3's / and B's.... OH MY!

I know Walmart might not be the best place in the world to go vitamin shopping, but sometime convenience wins out, and last night was one of those times.

So there I was, standing in the mega aisle of supplements, vitamins, weight loss promises, water pills, metabolism stimulants and everything other pill promising good results... what do I choose?!

Well, my trainer says I need Omega 3's and I HATE fish (if I could double capitalize HATE, I would!). I also don't want to chance to possibility of taking a fish oil pill and maybe getting ANY fish taste later... EEEEWWWWWW. So I picked up a Flax Seed Oil supplement. 3 big old pills a day... but I'm willing to try it. Anyone have any personal experience if this helped them lose any weight? Why/If they're really necessary...etc?

Then, a multi vitamin.... Gummies, powders, liquid, pills, etc. The gummies were the lowest on all the %'s.... kinda figuring that if it sounds too good to be true (a yummy, chewy, candy vitamin) it probably is. After reading the labels on about 20 or so jars I wondered "WHY DON'T THEY MAKE A DAILY VITAMIN THAT MEETS 100% OF EVERY CATEGORY? ISN'T THIS 2012? HAVEN'T WE PUT MEN ON THE MOON?"

Finally I made the decision... One Source Ultimate Women's Multi. The promises on the bottle to "support energy, metabolism, heart and bone health, and to be "The Most Complete Multivitamin" gave me a shred of confidence I made the right choice. The final deciding factor was that this one provides 63% of Magnesium... which might help reduce my migraines (so I've been told), and most of the others only provided 3 - 10%.

Okay MFP Community.... advice, thoughts, suggestions?

:)

One thing to consider when taking vitamins is if they don't disolve in a cup of water they will do nothing but flush through your system. This is what I was told years ago. Test whatever you get out and let it sit in some water for a while...

I guess this is hear/say since I have not researched it but the gummy ones are basically glorified gummies. I just recently stopped nursing my baby so I'm finishing off my prenatals.
personally I like melaleuca vitamins if you can find a distributer in the area. melaleuca.com. But this is the one I've been able to take that doesn't give me heartburn..
I take fish oil tablets for omega3 and fresh ground flax seed.. (the whole flax seed just goes through your system and the already ground has lost most of its nutrients) buy the whole seed and use a coffee grinder to grind it.
    HTH! :flowerforyou:

For Omega-3, I use Vitacost Mega EFA® Omega-3 EPA & DHA Fish Oil -- 2,126 mg per serving. Before you say, "But I don't like fish!" These taste like strawberries. No fish burps, just strawberry burps!

These are highly concentrated. I take 3 each day and they are the only thing that helps combat my high triglyceride levels.

Spring Valley (from Wal-mart) makes a "no burp" fish oil that I have been taking for over a year. I have never experienced any fish taste or fish burps.
