Heart Rate Monitor-how does it work?

Hi I'm curious about buying a heart rate monitor to log exercise, but how do you use it to log the work out? I like to ride my bike a lot in the summer and I think this would be the best way to accurately track the work I'm doing. I also do not trust the read out on my elliptical at all. I know the Fit Bit is compatible with the MFP system, but its a little expensive for me at the moment. I was hoping to start out with a less expensive one first to see how I like it.
Any additional input would be great.
Thanks!

I have the Polar FT7. In a nutshell, you hit the start button at the beginning of your workout and hit stop when you are done (some people let it continue for a few minutes even after their workout has ended).
It then gives you a summary of how long you exercised, how many calories you burned, your average heart rate, the highest your heart rate was, how many minutes you were in the "fat burning zone" and how many minutes you were in the "fitness zone".
I have probably left other details out, but I don't have it on me at this very moment. I absolutely love this thing and I even used it once when I was cleaning up my apartment.
My Polar FT7 was purchased at Best Buy, but I had some certificates that I redeemed, so I didn't pay full price. I love it and believe it is worth the investment.
Good luck on your journey!0 -
Thanks for the Info, that is very helpful to know!
Now I wonder, is there a good heart rate monitor available for like $50?0
