I am thinking about getting a new laptop cause mine broke a while back. I was just curious if anyone had suggestions on which one I should get. :)

I plan on just using it for every day stuff. Nothing fancy. I don't play video games and I probably wont store many documents on it but I want it to be fast.

Thanks for your suggestions (in advance) :flowerforyou:

Mac. But I would always recommend a desktop over a laptop.

I've had a Macbook Pro for the past four years. I love it. =D It's barely even slow, though by this point I'm thinking it will probably just explode one day. I bet Apple planted a self destruct device in it so they can have more of my money.

You'll pay for a Mac...a lot more for the name. I tell people this. Figure out what you want it to do. Look at the most demaning piece of software you want to run. Look at the recommended requirements and shoot for a little higher.

Most people these days completely over buy for what they really need.

^ this. I've had my Macbook (not pro) for almost 5 years without any hitch. It's only now just starting to show signs of it's age.

But speaking as someone who's a former PC owner - i think i went through 3 of them in 5 years.

You get what you pay for here.

And once you go Mac, you never go back ;-)

    PC because

1.) I am not a huge fan of OS
    2.) Macs are so expensive

    BUT macs are so sexy.

Mac has fantastic customer support. If you think you'll need any help, or if you do anything that exposes you to high virus potential (downloading music or nekkid pics) then go with the Mac.

If you already know what you're doing, and you don't plan to be at risk for viral attack, go with the cheaper PC.

It really depends on what you want to use it for. I will put in the caveat that I am a Mac user here.

If you're just looking for something to write emails and tool around the internet, I would say PC, possibly a netbook to lower costs.

If you're looking for something to game on, I would go PC (and I would go desktop, not laptop).

If you're looking for something to do graphics, video, or sound editing, I would say Mac.

If you are a big fan of customer support, and appreciate being able to call someone up for something as simple as "where did my itunes icon go" (something my mom actually called AppleCare about, lol!) I would say Mac, and get the extended warranty.

If money is no object and you want the best-designed one, I would go Mac.

Based on your description (just doing day-to-day stuff and you want it to be fast), I would say go PC. Unless money is no object, and then I would say go MacBook air, as it's one of the few laptops out there with a SSD (someone correct me if I'm wrong), which can add to the whole speed thing.

MAC hands down. My only suggestion if you buy a mac is to remember to back it up once a month...because the only time you will ever have an issue with it is when it dies. (Yes I know this could be viewed as an overgeneralization..but has always been my experience.)

And as far as compatibility issues go - just make sure to look on the back of whatever you are buying to make sure its compatible. Generally there is an icon that tells you. Its fairly simple if you remember to look.

    This!
  • I've got a basic IMac, son has a more sophisticated IMac, as he uses it for work, and daughter has a macbook. We all bought after using iPhones for a while. I've got an iPad too, and no compatibility issues.

Expensive to buy, but vastly superior to any Windows based pc or laptop I've ever worked with.

If you can afford it, the Macbook Air is an incredible laptop. And super fast due to the Solid State Drive (instead of a regular hard drive).

I went Mac last year, and won't go back.

Very true. I would never get a Mac to be cool since they're so expensive. I have one because it makes sense for my job, which has to do with graphics. A new 15'' Macbook Pro will run you 2000 or 2500 whereas a decent PC costs a lot less.

My 5 year-old iMac runs great and I have never had a virus or problem. How many 5 year old PC's are the same way?

My whole family has switched to Mac's since I bought my first one.

    Mac all the way.

    Mac.

My husband has a MacBook Pro and it's awesome. Our young kids have dropped it several times and walk on it all the time and it's still going strong. My PC laptop on the other hand, is a piece of crap. After maybe 18 months of use it now has a battery life of 15 minutes. The backlighting dims when it's not plugged in and the screen is so reflective I can't see a thing. While this is a problem that is specific to my brand of laptop, that doesn't change the fact that Windows simply sucks.

This pretty much says it all. If you do go PC, good antivirus is a must. That's the biggest drawback. I'm sure all the virus's are written by Mac users! :grumble:

Sounds like a tablet would work well for you. You could probably get away with an iPad.

I just converted to a Macbook Pro and I LOVE it!

It's a bit of a challenge getting used to when you're coming from a PC but it's not difficult. Like you, I don't use it for anything too specific, just usual everyday stuff and Photoshop for picture editing.

    So far, so good!

depends on what you need it for.

at work and for the most part i use PC.

at home and for my OTHER work i use a mac book.

for multimedia purposes - production etc - mac all the way.

If all your going to do is surf the net, play online games, make docs then buy a pc. (cheaper)

If you already have a printer, home network setup, have software you already love, then buy a pc. However, if your running something older than Windows 7, you may have to replace this stuff anyway. Or download new drivers for printers, etc.

If you want to do graphic design, have better customer support. Make movies, download music, and a lot more. Then buy a Mac.

PC, mac's are great if your looking to do things like music, photography and other things like that, but a pc you can upgrade if something goes wrong, with a mac you have to go buy another whole computer.

If you want something that is super easy to use and just "works", get a mac.

If price is an issue mac is out.

There are several different PC laptops out there that are wonderful, but I would never buy a laptop.

If you need to type alot on the go, then maybe a laptop.

Just want email, browse, apps, get some type of tablet.
