    Hmmm...
Almost getting an idea here, but it's not quite ready to come to the surface.
    Copying the weight loss challenge...
Maybe I should put $1 away for every 1/2 pound I lose. Then I'll have money to buy myself a new outfit for our family reunion on June 20th.
(See how optimistic I am? Expectation of losing enough weight to buy an outfit!)

Welcome, Amy. You've just bumped me out of the newbie position. :flowerforyou:

How do you calculate "heavy housecleaning" for exercise???

AJ-I'm having some wicked knee pain. I already know that I have deterioration of the cartilige under my knee caps, but the specialist i went to before was a bit of an *kitten*, and didn't really give me much information! So, I'm going to try a new facility and see!
  • Well - what a day - couldn't sleep for some reason. So I put it to use I finally got up and done a walking tape - then puttered around with cleaning, preparing some food, etc. Got the water down also and still drinking. Moving around and even doing the tape help motivate me a little more but I know tonight about 2 in the morning I am gonna be suffering.

AJ - Welcome to the group. You will love it

Alittle bit about me. My name is Lisa, just turned 50 and have been on mfp since March 3rd. I live in Indiana and for right now all my grandkids are in Montana. My daughter - in - law here in Indiana is pregnant but she is high risk for miscarriage for the first three months. I work nights on Sunday thru Wednesday - so when you all are coming in - I am going out.

Sheila - I am coming out to go walking with you go. I love to walk outside and would keep going also.

Cyndeebee - THANKS FOR THE IDEA OF PUTTING AWAY $1. FOR 1/2 POUND- I like that - may have to use it.

I enjoyed the story from LI4G about the old geezer and following and talking on the radio. Thanks for sharing - It does the body good to laugh.

Well gang this is my good night - sleep well. I got to get a move on on the exercising so don't know if I will check in in the morning or not until tomorrow night. We will see.

Kristi - if we pass each other in the morning - please turn my bed downand fluff my pillows before you leave - don't short sheet the bed either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Have a good night.

Well, I conked out early last night. Started a movie and was out by about 10:30ish. Got all the shopping done yesterday, Finally.

Hit the gym this morning and did week 3 of the couch to 5 K and man it kicked my butt! I thought the first time it made me run for 3 minutes, I was gonna die. LOL I kept telling adopt4 who was on the treadmill next to me, that I was gonna have to spend 2 weeks doing just this weeks intervals. It helped alot to have her there saying "Your looking good!! Keep going!! Dont stop!!" LOL My legs felt like rubber afterwards so It took me a couple minutes to get on the elliptical machine. We tried the ones that we dont like much and I got 20 minutes on it before I was up to 1000 calories burned (including my treadmill workout). Not too bad! It was a nice change! Hard to say if my legs were tired from the wog or that, but I definitely made sure I stretched good afterwards.

Got home and made some lunch (roast beast sammiches on cracked wheat sourdough with lettuce, tomato & vegetable garden cream cheese instead of mayo), cleaned the kitchen... then headed outside to work in the garden. Finished planting the remainder of my flowers and got the rest of the veggies planted in the garden then gave it a good watering. Its now raining.. LOL

Oldest daughter made pancakes & hashbrowns for dinner. UGH! Nothing like a carb load! Can ya tell she has a track meet tomorrow?? LOL I had 2 small pancakes and a banana. Gotta go log my stuff so I know where I am at for the day.

Cyndeebee- Crystal light is ok, but try not to drink it in place of your water. I wouldnt count that as part of your water intake, its always better to drink the water with a squeeze of real lemon than to drink that in its place. In place of coffee... Id say your ok :) I like to mix the lemon crystal light with some green tea and chill it for a good drink that mimics starbucks greentea lemonade. yum yum!

AJWaddlesOn- Cute name! Welcome to our thread!! We're happy you joined us!! As for the elliptical, when I started on it I had been on the treadmill for a month and I couldnt make it 7 minutes either without feeling like my thighs were gonna catch on fire from the burning sensation. My advice is to go 7 minutes a day for a week, then slowly up the time to 9 minutes, then 11, then 15. Really, if you can get past the 15 minutes, you can do 20, 30, 40, 50. I wouldnt of thought so either until I made myself do it and adopt4 thought I was nuts, then she started doing it. In 2 weeks she was able to get up to 30-45 minutes of time on it just by adding a little minute or two each day. Now we are trying different types of machines at the gym cuz each type gives a different workout. Not all ellipticals are created equal it seems.

indianagranny- You are so welcome! Im glad you found that info helpful. :) Dont be shy...ask away. If I know the answer, I'll help ya. If not, someone else here probably can. Thats what the group is for :) To motivate & support :)

Renyab- Id be taking addresses of people in that group and dropping goodie baskets at their door, just to sweeten the pot! $1 per pound if you gain? Wow! Now THATS motivation not to gain anything! One question tho... is it girls against girls and guys against guys? Cuz it hardly seems fair for the girls to suffer from the monthly visitor, bloating and gaining just to pay in if the guys dont. hmmmmm!

Swignal- Holy hikers! You have walked 12 miles in the last 2 days?? No wonder you are sore!!
My prescription....some motrin and Copy2ofpl0045.gif Take a day off to recoup, you deserve it!

    Nitag- LOL!!!! dumpster-dive.jpg
  • Lig4 - love the picture!
renayeb - so proud of you for stepping out and joining the group. Your going to do great!

    Hello to everyone else!

Have good news to report: I took off another 30 seconds on my wogging challenge today. My time started at 19 minutes:something and now I'm down to 17:03. A few more months and I will do 1.5 miles in 15 miutes! :smokin:

I gave in and used the treadmill at the gym because the weather has not been cooperating. I wanted to save money but used the rain/cold as an excuse not to exercise. So...I'm back to the gym.

    Good night everyone!

Oh... I forgot to share the little revelation I had this morning....

Was lookin at myself in the mirror and realized that 90% of the stretchmarks on my tummy (from havin kids and being fat) are now no longer pink! They are still big and ugly... but at least they arent the first thing I see when I look at my belly in the mirror!!

Hey LI4G and Nitag - who needs twitter when we've got "chatter" right here?

No gang, I'm not using the diet like Nitag is - I'm definately using the menus to prepare my grocery lists and my week, but not specifically the "program." Mostly I get meal ideas - just 'cuz my brain hurts when I have to think of what to cook for the whole week:smokin: That's how I roll.

On the subject of chrystal light ~ google the search 'aspertame side effects" ~ you will be reading for the next couple of hours. ESPECIALLY if you have fibromyalgia - or problems with inflamation - or a host of other health issues - steer clear of any products containing aspertame. When I started MFP in January, I gave up my 5 or so Dr. Peppers a day and switched to Diet - a couple of weeks in I started noticing my joints were super achy and I was having headaches - I initially contributed that to the new lifestyle, but a bit later I found out about the aspertame side effects and gave it up - I saw a significant improvement in my inflamation/achy joints very quickly. I still have a diet 7-up about once or twice a week (gave up caffiene too), but I stay away from it for the most part.

On the subject of shoes (from last week) check out the new issue of Fitness magazine - Great section on shoes explaining the best shoe for both the exercise AND the type of problem - also explains how to fit yourself - I'll try to post some of the info tomorrow.

AJ- Welcome. Soooooooo glad you've joined us!!

Renay - I just love when you are here!! The new group sounds great and what a fun way to really challenge yourself - BE STRONG!!!! You've come so far already - I can't wait to see how fantastic you do with this. I'm excited for you!! We don't have a Great Clips ~ and I really really need a haircut!

Today is my 4th day of no log-able exercise ~ Nowhere in the exercise log does it say "move 3000 pounds of junk around in 10 hours." Today, when hubby got home, we finished building the fence and chopped up wood. uggh. Hard work is..... hard work.

I'm beat gang ~ off to beddy-bye:yawn: I'll post more in the morning.

Li4g - Great job on the jogging!

Thanks! Ya know.. its really wierd. I was able to do 1/2 mile at one point, then stopped woggin cuz my ankle was hurting. Ended up being off the treadmill all together for about 3 weeks. So... in 3 weeks...I managed to go from running 1/2 a mile to having 3 minutes wear my butt out. Whats up with that?? LOL I still managed to get 45 minutes in on the elliptical so Im just surprised that NOT doing it affected my endurance so much! :grumble:

Oh also, quick question for the c25k runners. Does it say how fast to walk, how fast to run? Ive been walking at 3.5 and jogging at 5.

Oh an lulu....I cant get on the site from my iphone.. its a pain in the butt. But I can use twitter from there, which is sorta like texting, only it doesnt cost like texting does. Its a fun way to stay in touch. When I first signed up for it I thought "wow, this sounds boring", Now Im loving it! you can send pics with your messages also and Im following Lance Armstrong. Hes got some pretty cool tweats (messages) everyday. Very motivational.

Hi, team! You are prolly all gone to bed by now, but I didn't get a chance to check in this am, and I have missed you! I weighed myself again today, since every other Monday I weigh for the BIggest Loser Challenge where I work. I don't know how this happened, but I lost another 3 lbs since friday. Don't get me wrong, I am not unhappy.   But its a little suspect. I am starting to not live (or die) by what the scale says. So, I'm glad for that. Oh, and by the way, HAPPY DANCE FOR ME!!!!! LaurelandHardy-1.gif
The main reason for the happy dance is that I have never done this for this long before. I did a low carb diet for a month once and lost 32 lbs, but I have never done two and a half months! Oh yes, I am pretty happy! We could be on our way to a habit! Also, I was figuring and from my highest weight, which was in 2006, I have lost 48 lbs. Thats a happy feeling, too!

Ok, enough about me! You all have been BUSY today. Cool! smiley_aakq.gif

So, I have thoughts on what everyone has been up to. (Naturally, I always do!)

Jamie, you can download an application called "opera mini" for your blackberry. It is a little slow to navigate, but you can see the whole site. Good luck with work and life! sounds like you have been busy.

Renayeb - just what kind of bra is that? Those of us that belong to the ibtc never had a half pound bra in our lives! That was pretty funny! Then, the Arbor Mist crack. Hmmm. I was thinking, "whats this girl doing drinking Arbor Mist at 7:13 am? Then I figured that maybe you were a couple of time zones ahead of me.  And, WTG on the weight loss challenge. I like the $1 a pound for every pound gained! We could create a kitty to use next time LI4G gets in a pi$$ing contest with an elderly feller. To bail her out. Or pay her hospital bill, depending on the old guy.

DWray - your big nut crack was very funny. I hope you get that knee thing worked out! Ii have osteoarthritis myself, and it sthinks. I really notice a difference when I am not eating sugar, and now you mention it LuLu, sugar substitutes, too!

Get_fit - WOW on the exercise thing. Parts of me shake, but I get the idea its not the same, and its NOT a good thing! :noway: You sound like Martha Stewart now!

Cyndee - your story about your ex and Paul Bunyan is very funny. I thought you Canadians were too good tempered to have road rage? Sorry about the disability thing. Here, everyone gets denied the first time or even first two times they apply. I have had several clients over the years and its always the same, no matter how good the case is. Oh, you should be able to find house cleaning in the cardio section of the exercise log. And, SO GOOD to have you on the thread!

AJ - When you mentioned the ellyptical trainers, you included me in the list. That was kind, but the ellyptical and I have a love - hate relationship. I love to hate it! Infact, as I told the team when I first joined, I once fell off and have not gotten back on! I am working out, however, in fact my sister the trainer was here today and gave me some new exercises to work on to work all muscle groups. So, I'm pooped! You also mentioned that as a nurse, you should know better. How about this, I am an addiction counselor! :blushing: And, my sister is a certified personal trainer, and a nutrition and fitness specialist. :blushing: :blushing: We all have out crosses to bear. The great thing is YOU ARE HERE!!! :drinker: :drinker:

Adopt4 I am poking you to see if you are still dead. Don't die, cuz I need you around to one day help me get back on the ellyptical! I mean, I can't even spell it. Get some rest!

Sheila - listen to your mother! Pain is bad! Lots of pain is lots of bad! We full figure girls have a lot more strength than we get credit for, cuz we are lugging around a lot of baggage. However, if you are new to distance walking, or any other exercise, ya gotta work into it. If you get hurt before the vacation, I will poke you, too! But all the lecturing aside, I am so proud of the work you have done!!!!! weight_lifting.gif Crunches and weights, those are your friends until the vacation. And, your love affair with the dreaded elyptical machine can continue. YOU GO girl. In moderation!

Lisa, glad you aren't beating yourself up! Yes, I will be happy to fluff the pillows. Did you get the mint? And, in exchange for NOT short sheeting your bed, I think you should sing us a song, or perhaps do a little dance. Something to entertain us after a hard day wogging, logging, and flogging ourselves to get to work! How are the headaches? I was wondering about the possibility of a food allergy? Been reading up on that in a book called "The False Fat Diet" more later if you are interested. (If you act the least bit interested, I WILL go on and on about it, so be wary!) I am not sure I buy all of it, but it is an interesting idea.

LI4G - I am sending you an anger management exercise so you can keep from provoking bitter old men into frenzies of rage. Try this:
    DOGSITONCAT.jpg
Sometimes it pays to just sit and think before you act. Look how happy this little guy is!

Healthy mom - your time just keeps getting better and better! rrunner.gif

Chanty - enjoy the vacation! Brief as it is. Those are stress pounds girlfriend, they will leave as quickly as they came. I predict it.

Lulu - are you a Dr. Pepper fan, too? :smooched: I knew we were twin sisters born to different mothers! If I ever feel a craving, it is for the Doctor! So, with all the work you are doing, I can't see why you aren't logging it. weight-lifting_hampster.jpgCan you say strength training? Check that out under the cardio section. I think you are working pretty darn hard! And, thanks for the information on the crystal lite - I never thought of the connection to sweetners and inflamation, but that makes a ton of sense, because I notice a lot less pain in my joints when I am not drinking DrP, or using processed sugar. Thanks!

Anita, get out of that dumpster! You can log those calories later!  Thanks for posting the eating plan information. Do you like it? For my taste, it is a little heavy on carbs and a little light on meat!

Ok, an end to this record post. Take care! Love you guys.

    ONE MORE THING

Sorry, gang - that last post was so long, of course I forgot something.

I found some nifty little products called True Lemon and True Lime. It was at a Kroger store. They are just little packets of flavoring. They both are 100% natural with 0 calories, 0 carbs and no sweetners. The lemon one says crystalized lemon and the lime one says crystalized lime substitute. hmmm.. but it has lime in it, and it is the third ingredient, just like the true lemon. Anyway, if you are tired of plain water, it works. Ta ta for now.

Kristi, I logged and the carbs are super high... Really went over and I followed it to the T.... I am going to give it a week and see what happens.. Thinking I can follow it and modify it a little bit... But seriously, today the plan has me eating a lot of bread  I am a big fan of bread and I've been able to kick the habit... I think I will modify the meal 3 with lettuce wrap or a low carb wrap...

    Everyone else, good morning.....

I did my exercising last night - I never do that but I kinda wanted to change it up.. I did 40 mins on the treadmill, wogging... I did 2 miles in 30 mins.. the rest I didn't keep track.. i just stopped at 40 mins.. Did my biceps, triceps, squats and abs... I'm sore this morning so I will again exercise tonight and then tomorrow I am off so I will exercise late morning and try to get back on the morning train.. I think I read somewhere that it's good to change it up and trick your body..

Tough night, the dogs were up and down all night... :noway: I have 2 malteeses and they need to learn to hold it.... I was excited the husband got up with them but each time they managed to wake me up..

Well I am off to get myself ready for work....

Ok, since I dont know how to put quotes on top of quotes here goes

Waddles and Healthymom, - thanks so much for the encouragment. I plan on winning this thing. My biggest competitor is actually a 65 y/o lady who lost the most inches on a pryor Weightloss session. Congrats on the 20 lbs loss Healthy. YGG

LI4G - those snack packs on their porches is an awesome idea. Glad there are people out there who understands me  I;ll bring gift baskets to the next meeting how about that. Warm owee gooey donuts and something to drink with high fructose corn syrup.  Its boys and girls together like on the biggest loser show.

Lulu - I dont know if I ever told you I like the pic of you , it is so cute. If I could get to you I would love to give you a haircut. This is great motivation people are giving me and I am so glad I am back on the threads with you and the rest of them. You guys crack me up. I wish I was in this weightloss competition with all of you to be able to see everyone in person. I would still spike everything with high fructose corn syrup.  JK but I would love to meet you all.

Kristi - I promise I didn't touch the bottle. Yeah, I'm in Michigan, eastern time so it was almost noonish. On the other hand, (piss-on) LI4G. My money is on you or FOR you which ever way it goes
I dont know if you drink or not but if you do try the PERFECT MARGARITA by Applebee's Mmm Mmm Mmm. Makes moma happy.

If I forgot anyone I am sorry but THANK YOU TOO and a big HELLO to all the newbies.

Morning, ya'll, for some of you it's nearly noon. I was MIA yesterday because I developed a migraine after working out. Well it had started the day before as a headache but doing the new elliptical and getting my heart rate up there pushed it over the edge. I had hubby go buy me Diet Pepsi last night, nothing else was working, and that seemed to help, and so I am drinking it today too to keep it at bay. So much for kicking that habit right now!

I don't know what my body is doing right now, I'm slowly inching up on the scales... it doesn't seem to be sodium, I did a report of the last week, and I've been good on cals, not too few, and except for one day, not too many... the only real difference I can think of is that i haven't been wogging... and not burning quite as many cals as i was... but I have been tireder and napping in the afternoons, fighting some bug or the migraine... it shouldn't be tom water retention any more... i dunno... so i'm just watching and see what happens, I don't really want to change up my food intake right now, because it's only a week, and I'm eating how I'm supposed to, so I want to see what happens. Worse case scenario I gain a pound or two in the next few weeks keeping at this eating level and learn that my body doesn't want me to eat back all my exercise cals or something. Either way, I'll learn what's going on. Because I KNOW I'm being good and logging everything and not eating crap, and when I go over cals, I log it... last night I thought i was (fried chicken breast from albertsons) and couldn't log it - but then it ended up being just right when all was said and done. Whew!

Kristi, that picture of the puppy and kitty made me LOL - my kids came running to the computer "what mommy? what's so funny?" and of course they don't get it and they think I'm crazy.

Healthymom congrats on the loss!! Way to go!!

Morning gang, short post then I am off to exercise. weight_lifting.gif

Anita, thats a great idea about changing some things to lower carbs in the meal plan you are following. I have a hard time being creative like that, but I am learning. Will you replace the bread calories with something else, like veggies, or dare I mention it again, MEAT? Keep us in the loop! Good luck!

Renya - I am confident you can beat the 65 year old gal! Especially with your sneak attack! dde85913-1.gif Thanks for the tip on margaritas,:drinker: that will have to be for li4g, I am no longer a drinker. Gave up that addiction 30+ years ago. Today, I do drug and alcohol counselling. So, full circle, I guess. Been thinking, when I gave up alcohol, I prolly just switched to food. So, now I am FINALLY getting a handle on the underlying behavior! Slow learner! :blushing: But, I am geting there, and so are you! Good luck on the contest. I don't expect you to have to ante up any dollars for gained lbs!

Rocky aka Sheila - it is so cool that you now can walk 7 miles at a time. I totally get how you feel. When ever I used to go anywhere with friends or family, I worried about two things - and I mean really worried! The things were, how far will I have to walk from the car, and will there be a chair big enough for me when I get there? Well, last night, I went out to dinner with some friends (which, by the way, I did a great job of planning ahead and ordering healthy fare). We parked about a block away. After parking, my friend who was driving turned to me and said, "Oh, I forgot, I should have dropped you off at the door." I, on the other hand said, "No problem! But thanks anyway." It was only a block, but it was so nice to stroll along with them! So, I get you - but an injury puts us on the sidelines my friend, and we don't need that! You are doing so great. Rocky is a great name!

Healthymom - 20 lbs!! happy dance for you!!! fatbellydancer.gif Nice to see her again, isn't it!

Adopt4, oooh. Kicking caffine is a bugger! When I did it, I bet I spent a week dragging around. My legs felt like lead. Headache. Yikes. So, I think the leg aches were more from the sugar than the caffine. Since then, I have learned that increasing your Vit B12 intake about a week before kicking the habit is a good idea. You know what I like about you? You do the personal research and figure things out. Thats way cool. Being in touch with how you body feels and why it feels that way is kind of a new thing for me. Been ignoring the poor thing for so long! Good luck on that!

Lisa, here are a couple of websites with information on migrane and its possible relation to diet. Pretty interesting stuff. The first site is sponsored by AstraZenica, and I am a big conspiracy nut about big pharma, so I take it with a grain of salt, but still - its an interesting thing to think about and look into. Their website has a common trigger matrix, which is interesting. In the diet catagory, they mention the following foods: chocolate, nuts and peanut butter, cheese yogurt, sour cream, red wine and other alcohol, {winks at renyab} processed meats and MSG. In the lifestyle catagory, they mentioned emotional stress, depression, lack of sleep, exercise or over-activity and skipping meals. Hmmm! When I first started on MFP, I was trying to do what I always did before, which was STARVE and lose a ton of weight quickly. What used to happen was I could maintain that for a couple of weeks, and then I always gave it up. So, I would lose about 15 or 20 lbs, then regain them plus ten. Great program! :grumble: :grumble: Anyway, that was trying to stay well below 1200 calories a day. At 1200 calories, I was still having headaches, so my fitness/nutrition coach smacked me upside the head and said, listen, eat at least 1500 calories a day. So, I did, and the head aches went away and the pounds keep going. Today, I eat around 1700 calories a day. So, TMI, I know. The last two websites are more research based, however, they seem to agree that aged cheese is a likely trigger. Good luck with all that information.
