I've always been one of those people who doesn't eat during the day and then uses all my calories for dinner. I'm trying to change that and eat small meals throughout the day. Should i force myself to eat even when I'm not hungry?

Yes, You should eat a little something. This keeps your blood sugar stable so you don't become so hungery that you eat to much nor are you tempted to eat the wrong stuff.
Also the reason you are so tired after a meal is because your body needsto expend extra energy to digest the larger meal.
6 mini meals is much better for you.

i would do mini meals as well, but within reason. if you're not hungry, listen to your body, but you should also try to train yourself to be eating throughout the day instead of all at once in the evening. good luck, good question!
  • Thanks for the info - i'm eating (a banana) as I type!!!

I found this helpful from a post from figueres3 yesterday under the topic 1200 calories:

"I have the same tendency to eat really little durring the day and then eat a good dinner since I have a lot of calories left. The problem with that is the the body doesn't sense how much you're eating in a 24 hour period, it gains or looses fat based on the body's needs at that time. So in the morning, if you eat a little, your caloric need is high and it burns fat; but night comes and you are winding down and you eat a huge meal, the body doesn't need all those calories, so it stores fat.
I read something in a Diet Handbook that said:

"Always try to eat 4 meals
    every day, spaced out by
at least 2 1/2 hours (you
    should be breaking up
    your meals in this manner
for the rest of your life).
Just "ESTIMATE" what you think you'll eat each day,
and try your best to eat those foods as evenly as
    possible throughout the day.
Basically, all we are saying is that you should not eat
half of your daily calories in one single meal, because
your body will store fat if you do that.
One of the biggest reasons people gain weight is
because they eat too much at ONE SINGLE MEAL and
their bodies store those extra calories as fat tissue.

    Hope this helps,

  • That was very helpful - Thanks!

I did when I started so I could get on a schedule and pay attention to what I was doing. Keep small snacks (string cheese, nuts, apples) for just such occasions.

I eat 5-6 small meals a day and I eat every 3 hours and it took about two weeks but I found that eventually my tummy started to rumble about 20-30 minutes before my meals. It isn't easy doing this but it works.
