I know this is a weight loss site but God blessed me with a child during my weight loss journey (go figure) and I am still trying to be healthy and avoid gaining unnecessary weight so i am still counting calories. I love my mfp friends but i would love some new ones that are in a similar situation. It is so hard to eat healthy when everyone is saying im pregnant i can eat w/e its for the baby... I am already obese and that puts me at risk for gestational diabetes which i do NOT want!
Love to hear from you! If you are a mommy to be feel free to add me!

I got gestational diabetes when i was pregnant with my boy. I had to see a specialist monthly and he put me on a diet during my pregnancy, limited my sugars and carbs. I had to inject insulin three times a day because I became insulin resistant.
I lost 15 lbs during my pregnancy an had a healthy boy 7 lbs 15 ounces. Make sure that your doctor is supervising your diet while you are pregnant.
Good luck and congratulations!0 -
I wish they would help me diet right now to avoid getting gestational diabetes but they say that they will only put me on a diet if i get it... how backwards is that? Wish i had known earlier i would have changed doctors... hefers...0

yeah they don't think of prevention in this case. However, if it does happen do not stress to much about it. The best thing of seeing a specialist in addition to my obgyn every month is that I got a ton of sonogram pics.
Eat healthy balanced meals. Stay off the fast food, sodas and sweets. The healthier you eat the less heart burn too. Above else enjoy your pregnancy.0 -
you can add me if you'd like. I have a little girl that is 2 next month and am almost 5 weeks pregnant with our second blessing. i have been trying to loose weight as well, but for now i need to not focus on that and just work on exercising and eating better. i say, if you want to still count your calories, then do it and screw anyone who says you shouldnt bother. just because you are pregnant doesnt mean you can just binge on what ever you feel like, in fact i would say its even more important to try to eat right. yes, it is ok to indulge every once in a while, but that doesnt mean eating junk whenever you want. If you are worried about G.D. then maybe just watch your sugar/carb intake. that might help. it really sucks that they wont help you unless you end up with it. maybe you could look up meal plans/examples for pregnant women with GD and just go off that.0

Seriously people, just because you are pregnant doesn't mean you can eat whatever you want. From what I have read, pregnant woman should only add an additional 300 calories to their normal maintenance calorie intake. I think this is a great place to keep an eye on what you are eating as an expectant mom to keep track of calories and nutrition. I'm not expecting at the moment, but am trying to conceive. I gained too much weight with my first pregnancy and haven't gotten down to my pre-pregnancy weight. I'm afraid that when I do conceive I will gain more than I did last time and am planning on using mfp to keep track of what I eat and minimize the weight gain.
I wish you the best during your pregnancy. Congrats.0
