Hi everyone...here's my question:
my daily calorie goal is 1350 cals, when i log my workouts it adds those cals to my goal, giving me a total of 1950. do i really need to eat the additional 600 calories? i'm working out to increase my daily calorie deficit... i don't want to negate the effort by consuming 600 extra calories!
i don't want to counteract my efforts by not eating enough but i really am not hungry enough to eat that much. any advice?

Most people say to eat the "Bonus" calories.

I have been doing this for a month now and my weight is the same as when I started. I was eating the "Bonus" calories which meant I was averaging about 2000 calories a day. I burn on average 600-700 calories when I work out (which is everyday). The calories just seem way too much. I am going to try and eat only 1300 a day and see what happens. My body is not responding when I eat the "Bonus" calories. It just doesn't seem right to me to eat all of the calories I just burned. Its like one step forward one step back. I does appear to counteract your efforts.

As of this week I am ignoring the "Bonus" calories.
  • sounds good...i think i'll try the same. thanks

your daily allowance is for just doing normal activities as you stated on your profile. If you exercise you get additional calories so that you don't go too low and have your body stop weight loss.

I go right in the middle, I am allowed 1390 cals a day and with exercise that usually goes up to about 1900+ so I stick to 1500-1600 cals a day and I am loosing weight. I too stood still by eatting all of the "bonus" calories.

I would eat a few of the bonus calories but maybe not all of them, I know that other people eat them and loose weight but it seems to make me maintain and god knows thats not what I am here for! lol
  • I agree. Eating some but not all the Bonus calories is really working for me too. I guess you just have to try it and see what works. Down 9.9kg (21.78 lbs)!

If you are at the waight you want to be, then you should eat the extra calories.
If you are tring to lose then you need to have a deficite of calories.
The goal right now is to burn burn burn those calories.
Stick to you goal of 1350 and I think you will see resultf faster.
    Good luck!!

    Garimac,

Do you stick to 1350 regardless of what calories you burn?
  • Puravidame, I agree with you. I was eating the extra calories that I burned (like you, I exercise almost every day and burn 600 + calories. I was allowing myself to eat the extra calories and have lost a little weight - but not much. So, I have decided to stay around the 1200 and see what happens over the course of the next month or so.

I do notice that my clothes are fitting better and I am going to take measurements this weekend. I suspect that some of my fat has turned into muscle.

Before I turned 35, I could eat what I wanted and exercise and drop weight very quickly -- but alas, it seems to be true, things change after 30 -- :grumble:

My weigh in today is 146.5

I'm on maintenance now, but during the real calorie crunch time of my journey I only used those extra calories if I was suffering or planned to splurge, it just got me to my goal faster by not using them. You'll still get to your goal either way, use them if you want them.

If i want to wiegh 130 pounds then that is how much calories I can eat in a day.
    Myself, I eat 1200 calories a day.
But if you need to lose you should try and burn at least half of what you eat. I am burning 800 to 1000 calories a day and still not going over my 1200 calories allowed.
But yae when I drop the weight I can burn thise calories and get to eat a little more!
