Good morning all! I just wanted to introduce myself because my fitness coordinator at work encouraged me to join this site to kick start my weight loss journey. I'm really tired (LITERALLY) of being unhealthy and since both of my parents are type II diabetics, I have to start trying to change now.
A little about myself... I'm 5'6", starting weight is about 217 lbs. My ultimate goal weight is somewhere between 135-145 lbs. I've played volleyball all my life, even on scholarship in college. I'm an engineer so most of my day is sitting in front of a computer or in meetings all day. Needless to say, it didn't take long to gain a lot of weight since I graduated.
I also just signed up for my first 5K event, which is in about 8 weeks. I've been easing myself into the running thing again and finally got myself to run a mile straight this weekend. It's a start!
I'm looking for friends to help keep me motivated... I always fall off the bandwagon within two weeks, but I feel like I won't this time because of the goal to complete a 5K. Any advice or encouragement is welcome! Thanks!

The biggest advice I can give to a new runner is to make sure you enjoy it!! You won't stick at it unless you enjoy it. You will work out what is best for you; Run in the morning or night? iPod or no music? Treadmil or road? Shorts or 3/4 tights? Singlet or T-Shirt? I subscribed to Runners World Magazine, that helps with the motivation too!!!
I have the best running singlet from Lorna Jane (Aussie ladies fitness store)..... RUNNING MAKES ME HAPPY is written on the front
