    Im a teacher..
    Im confused, are you subbing?

I dont think it really matters.... possibly before, so that then the principal can come in and see you teach if he or she is interested.

I'd say before, so that the option of viewing your teaching is available.

I would say go and see her beforehand and explain that your interested and then she can come and stand in and watch you. that is what they will want to do anyway.

    Good luck. x

I agree with the others, mention it to the principal (assuming a head teacher is the same as a principal) when you check in for the day. Are the resumes going to the head teacher? If so, then great! If not, then be ready for the head teacher to tell you to send your resume to someone else. I'm not sure what the process is by you, but here some school districts have a hiring committee that the candidates interview with first and then the principal only interviews the ones that the committee approves. In my kids' schools, the substitute teachers have a higher chance of being hired than someone unfamiliar with the school, one reason I'm thinking of going back to subbing when my youngest gets to school next year. In any case, good luck!

Another thought... have you been to this school before? If not, then you might want to wait until after your day is over and see if you are happy with what you experience there. Your day might be really great or the kids might be uncontrolled... something you'd have to consider with applying for the position.
