What am I doing wrong?

I have been stuck between 135.8 and 137 lbs and I can't seem to lose more weight, my goal weight is around 120 lbs and I've been on MFP for about 6 weeks. I try to eat pretty healthy and I workout everyday (if not everyday than atleast 5 days a week). I am usually under my calorie goal (and yes this weekend I did eat cake, but it was a special occasion). I don't know what I am doing wrong, and it's very frusterating because I feel like I should be doing better. I do feel slimmer and feel like I have more muscle mass, but I feel like I should have atleast lost another lb or two. Please help! I made my diary public.

  • your diary looks fine to me. you may just need to play around with the amount you eat for a bit perhaps eat a bit more as you do seem to work out a lot in the day going by your diary
  • Okay thank you! Someone else also suggested that, but I try to eat 200-300 under the calorie goal in case I miscalculated some food or exercise.

Eat those 200-300 calories. May be just what you need to break the plateau! Or mix up your exercise routine. Or drink more water every day. It may just be you need a change of routine.

Change up your routine. Try shocking your system with a new exercise or adjust your calories slightly.
  • Eat those 200-300 calories you're depriving of yourself, but make sure they aren't adding any sugar to your diet. If you keep your caloric intake too far down, your body will hang onto more calories in anticipation of not having enough the next day.
Next- change up your routine. Congrats for working out for 6 weeks 5x a week or more- very admirable! But your body has now adjusted to its new stressor- that same old workout. Try 2 different workouts a week, maybe 1 3x a week, and the other in between those days, to put new stress on your body in a way it hasn't had to work yet. Example- if you've been running 6 days a week, try biking a few days a week along with cross training,or swimming, lifting weights, kickboxing, etc.
  • I am going to say try and drink more water. Not sure if it will help or not, but it's just a suggestion.

    Lots and lots of water!
  • I will try eating more and I am hoping to save up money to buy some different exercise videos so I can change my routine, but right now I am stuck with running and zumba which I love. I don't know what other exercises to do to mix it up.

Don't forget rest too! Muscle grows at rest only so you have to have enough. You should do no more than 5 weight days a week and no more than 6 cardio days a week.
  • Oh good idea! I haven't ridden a bike in a long time. Thanks! I try to exercise enough so that I can eat more. How much water should I be drinking? I try to drink as much as possible and that's basically all I drink, but I get kind of sick of it after like 4-5 glasses.
  • I don't usually do weight training days because I'm not sure what to do. I try to do pushups, situps, and crunches and planks 5 or 6 times a week. If I don't work out then I just feel lazy and sluggish, otherwise I would take a rest day.

Have you heard of calorie cycling? You average out your calories for the week, and then alternate lower calorie days with high calorie days....it kind of shakes up your metabolism. Might just be the thing you need!

Maybe try tracking and eating less sugar, and increasing overall calories?
  • So many things to try! Thanks everyone, I've heard of calorie cycling once? I should probably be eating more veggies and less fruit to decrease the sugar. thanks :)
