Question for Women that lift...

I just purchased “The New Rules of Lifting for Women”- I have read about half way through. I am excited to get started, but for some reason the thought of just walking into the gym and walking up to the squat rack or the Olympic barbell terrifies me. I just question will my form be correct, will I push myself hard enough, ECT... I spoke to the trainers at my gym to see if they had some suggestions and none of the women trainers lift heavy - I am interested to hear how you all got started, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
