Exercise mat for carpet in an apartment

Hey everyone!!! So I am starting Insanity here in a little over a week. My biggest worry is the fact I am 260 lbs and live on the 3rd floor of a apartment, so I know I am going to be loud. My goal is to disturb my neighbors below as little as possible, therefore I was thinking about getting some kind of mat to exercise on to try to dampen some of the noise and vibration. I am afraid the mat will slip around though.
Does anyone have any recommendation for mats that won't slip on carpet, or if not, ideas of how to keep the mat from sliding around?
Thanks for your help!

Oh bump!
I'd like to know this as well. I'm don't care about the noise so much but would love something that doesn't trip me up on the carpet.0 -
I just use my rug on my carpet and when I worked a different shift I would work out when they weren't home...0

I don't have any tips for you and unfortunately I don't think there is anything you can do.. even if you were 100 pounds and light on your feet, you still will be loud I got really discouraged when I lived in my apartment (top floor of course!) because my stupid neighbors under me were always banging on the ceiling or calling the front office on me.. I was trying to to aerobics like turbo jam and I was very very cautious
SO instead of giving up, I decided to find other things to do.. I did my weights in my apartment.. I got 5,8,10# dumbbells and some resistance bands.. I did all of that inside.. for my cardio I would run the stairs and run around the complex outside.. as I got better I would run to the local highschool and do a couple miles on their track then walk back. I also decided to buy a bike and rode around the neighborhoods when it was nice out (it was a new area for me so I liked to explore!
Good luck.. it can be done anywhere.. ya just have to be creative!0 -
Wow, I hear you abeal2! I'm on the 3rd floor of my apartments too. Luckily though I don't have any neighbors underneath (yet). Be be honest, I tried Insanity! and I do the abs DVD every once in a while. I don't think there's a mat thick enough to cushion the sound of me jumping around (I'm 200lbs).
To keep the mat in place, just place a loop of duct tape on each of the 4 corners, underneath the mat. Or, go to the store and buy the pile and hook combo tape but just use the hook pieces on the bottom of your mat. I hope that helps.0 -
They have grippy things to place under rugs to keep them from 'walking' on carpet.

You could maybe get one of those and cut it down to the size of your mat.0 -
Having lived in an apartment before, I know where you're coming from. I found these 24" square interlocking mats to be very useful, and they did not slip or break apart.
0
