Morning exercise issues...HELP!!

So I am on month 2 of insanity (most of the workouts are 55 min high intensity cardio). I have TIME to workout at 7:30 on the weekdays before work. I could also fit it in after kids go to bed but on the few times I've had to do that my husband had to peel me off the floor. I get up at about 6am with my son. At which time I give him a bottle I then try and eat something. My main breakfast staple is protein, lower fat but not fat free, and whole grain or bread about 200 calories and I will have some fruit or a protein shake after workout. I am having a huge issue with muscle fatigue and general slowness right now in my workout. I know I'm capable of more than I'm able to give at 7:30 if I could just get my body started. Does anybody have some pep secrets they could share with me that might help get my energy levels up? My overall plan is to eat 1200 calories a day but I do better with weight loss when I vary the calories from day to day a little. I try to eat 5 meals( breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner) a day.

  • I'm doing taebo every morning myself. It's a 58 min. video. I drink my shake beforehand with my multivitamins and down a bottle of water. Afterwards if I feel I need something extra I eat a protein bar or just a snack bar. I've found that shakes and bars keep me satisfied for a while and the shake gives the nutrients I need a little faster than solid food. I'm sore all over and yes I'm exhausted first thing in the morning, but I feel great afterwards. I'm adjusting to working out because I have p90x headed my way in the mail and I don't wanna DIE working out. Don't give up. I have to push myself the first half of the video. I wouldn't recommend working out that hard after a long day of work unless you just have to. Good Luck!!!

I can definitely try the shake before. Are you using milk or water to mix?
  • I cannot do the powders at all. My taste buds just do not agree. I have to buy shakes already mixed, like slim fast or special k. They might not have as much protein as a powder shake though... I'm not quite sure. I like the shakes and bars because they taste decent and they're quick. I have six kids and about 30-40 more pounds to lose depending on how much I weigh after I put on all this muscle from doing p90x. I hardly have a second to myself anymore.

You're probably not getting enough sleep, and almost certainly not eating enough to support your activity. If that's right, I'm not sure how much a protein shake can help. I'd add at least a few hundred calories to that, do the workouts in the evening, and get an extra (not really extra but probably necessary) hour of sleep in the am.

I work out at 5am every morning. Try shifting some of your calories towards the evening.
