Should I trust the "calories burned" readout on the gym equipment and if not how do I figure out how many to record?

Sometimes the gym machines are kind of high. I would recommend a heart rate monitor or bodybugg...which I have and love. Anyway, I would log maybe 75% of what it says to be safe. The treadmill has been pretty close to me with my bodybugg, but the elliptical and stair stepper have not been as accurate.0

Ok. Thank you. Another Question. How do I convert heart rate to calories burned? Sorry. Just quit smoking and gained some weight. Impatient to get it off.0
